Todd Jones has started as the new Managing Director for Colliers Project Leaders, as Nigel Cooper is set to depart after 19 years with the business.

The elevation of Jones is part of a strategically constructed succession plan, and he will be supported by Andrew Bowden who has moved into a new role as National Director – Project Leaders.

With over 13 years’ experience with Colliers Project Leaders, Jones has overseen projects in the education, hospitality, large format retail, residential, community, mixed-use, and infrastructure sectors across New Zealand.

After starting with the business in Auckland, he moved to Tauranga in 2016 to project manage the development of the University of Waikato’s new campus in the city.

He has grown the presence of the business in the Bay of Plenty and now takes on a greater national responsibility.

More recently, Jones has been involved with the ongoing development of a new retail centre in Kinloch near Taup? and the mixed-use town centre development known as The Sands in Papamoa.

“I am hugely excited about having the opportunity to lead the business as we move into a new phase of growth.

"We have a strong pipeline of work across the country and continue to broaden our reach into new sectors, underscoring the depth of expertise of our people,” Jones says.

“Nigel leaves an incredible legacy at Colliers Project Leaders, and we are grateful for his direction and leadership of the business over many years.”

Across New Zealand, Colliers Project Leaders has offices in Auckland, Hamilton, Tauranga, Wellington, and Christchurch.

The organisation is currently leading a broad array of works including the University of Waikato’s new medical school campus in Hamilton, the expansion of Palmerston North Airport, remedial works at Hnry Stadium in Wellington, and multiple projects with Woolworths in Canterbury.

They recently managed the development of a large-scale meat plant facility in Auckland.

Meanwhile, Cooper is moving offshore to pursue new work opportunities with his wife and leaves with good memories.

He says he has thoroughly enjoyed his time with Colliers Project Leaders, having joined them when they were known as Greenstone Group before they partnered with Colliers in 2023.

“In Todd and Andrew we have a natural succession plan. They are embedded in the core DNA of our business culture and possess enterprising spirit and ferocious resolve.

"They operate with high levels of integrity at every turn, and the business is poised to reach its full potential with Todd and Andrew at the helm. I wish them all the best for the future,” Cooper says.

“It is the right time for me to move forward and take on a new adventure overseas with my wife and I leave knowing the Colliers Project Leaders business is in great hands.”

Across his career, Cooper made a significant impact and led notable Auckland projects such as the Novotel hotel at the airport, Resido build-to-rent development at Sylvia Park, the Fabric apartments in Onehunga, and The Foundation retirement village in Parnell, among a host of others.

Most recently, he led the design, consent, and negotiation phases of the new 32-level student accommodation tower that is being developed at 256 Queen Street in Auckland’s CBD.
