The project management expertise of Colliers was recognised at the RICS New Zealand Awards 2025 in Auckland last Thursday.

The University of Auckland and Colliers Project Leaders received the Project Management Team of the Year award for the development of the Hiwa Recreation Centre, a facility that offers a world-class range of recreation and wellness spaces.

Hiwa is packed with features, including a rooftop multi-sport turf and social area with panoramic views of Auckland city.

It also has the southern hemisphere's first glass sports floor with integrated LED markings, an aquatic hall with dive well, studios, specialist rooms, squash courts, sports halls, bouldering wall, quiet zone, chill-out areas, and an internal running track.

The project management team overcame significant challenges to deliver the project and it will serve as a premium asset for the University of Auckland for many years to come.

As well as winning the Project Management Team of the Year category, Colliers Project Leaders was also Highly Commended for its submission on the Sylvia Park build-to-rent project in Auckland known as Resido that was developed by Kiwi Property.

This was the only award that received a Highly Commended certificate at the event.

The Resido development featured efficient project management processes and the project was forced to navigate major challenges that were posed by the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shane Davis, Director at Colliers Project Leaders, played a pivotal role in the delivery of the Hiwa Recreation Centre and says the project was underpinned by a fantastic team.

“Everyone who worked on the Hiwa Recreation Centre went above and beyond and played their part to help create something special,” Davis says.

“Hiwa was a once-in-a-lifetime project and we were fortunate to work with a client that had vision and courage and recognised that building the right project management team was one of the keys to project success. Congratulations to all involved, this is a well-deserved accolade.”

Aside from the success in the project management category, the Colliers Valuation & Advisory Services team was also a finalist in the Valuation Team of the Year award, while Colliers Highbrook was a finalist in the Real Estate Agency Team of the Year category.

Gareth Fraser, CEO of Colliers New Zealand, says this recognition highlights the depth of expertise Colliers offers across the property sector.

“I’d like to extend my congratulations to our Project Leaders team and to the clients they worked with on being recognised at the RICS New Zealand Awards. The Hiwa Recreation Centre is an outstanding facility that is a first-class development,” Fraser says.

“Meanwhile, the Resido build-to-rent facility is a landmark project that underscores the broad capabilities of our Colliers Project Leaders team who are market leaders in the delivery of projects that are built to last.”
