Multiple Colliers team members have been recognised at the Property Council New Zealand’s recent Property People Awards ceremonies held around the country.

The company’s longtime Chief Operating Officer Bruce Gallie won the Property Professional of the Year Award at the Auckland event last week, while the Hiwa Recreation Centre Project Team that included Colliers Project Leaders won the Best Team and Supreme Excellence Awards.

Gallie joined Colliers in 2002 and worked in brokerage before becoming General Manager Operations and later the Chief Operating Officer.

He has nearly 40 years of industry experience and has contributed extensively to Colliers’ outreach programme with tertiary education providers to help build connections with young property professionals, while overseeing the day-to-day operations of the business.

“I am thrilled to have received this award,” Gallie says.

“This recognition is in large part due to the support I have enjoyed from the wider Colliers team over the past 23 years who have enthusiastically collaborated to achieve great outcomes across our client, staff, and community engagement initiatives.”

The wins for the University of Auckland’s Hiwa Recreation Centre follows its recent recognition at the World Architecture Festival in Miami where it won the Sport Architecture category, while it has received a host of other industry awards this year.

Shane Davis, Director at Colliers Project Leaders, says the Hiwa Recreation Centre project was a major success because of the team they were able to assemble to bring it all together.

“We are incredibly proud to have played our part in a project that has been recognised with multiple industry awards this year, reflecting its impact on the property sector. The project stands out as one that will be a career highlight for those who had the opportunity to be part of it.”

Meanwhile, the Colliers Project Leaders team in Hamilton was part of the team that was recognised with a Judges’ Choice Award at the Central Property People Awards for their work at Hamilton Airport.

At the South Island Property People Awards, valuations Consultant Gary Sellars received the Property Professional of the Year and Supreme Excellence Awards, while Courtney Doig, Director of Investment Sales, was a finalist in the Women in Property Award.

Sellars, who has a storied career in the valuation sector, is well-known for his Christchurch Market Summit presentations that provided valuable insights to industry participants for many years.

He first entered the property industry in Christchurch in the 1970s and spent time working in Hong Kong before returning to New Zealand where he worked for Fright Aubrey for over 20 years before the firm was acquired by Colliers in 2008.

“Thank you to the Property Council New Zealand for this recognition and the excellent work they do. One of the features of being involved in the property market is that there is continual change, which sometimes is particularly challenging, but always interesting,” Sellars says.

“One of the highlights of my career was the exposure and interaction with the high-quality people involved in the property business. I have had the pleasure of working with some great people at Fright Aubrey and Colliers and the privilege of working for a large number of high-quality people as clients, some of whom were with me for 40 years.”
