The family-owned retail complex housing Christchurch homeware store Casual & Country is for sale for the first time.
Located at 1027 Ferry Road, the Ferrymead property is in one title and is for sale by deadline private treaty closing 22 July. It is being marketed for sale by Courtney Doig, Director of Investment Sales at Colliers Christchurch, and colleague Ben Cameron.
“It’s an emotional time for the Turnbull family but after more than three decades running the business very much hands-on, they’re approaching retirement and are keen to travel,” Doig says.
“This architecturally designed property is more than just bricks and mortar, it represents decades of passion and care.”

At the gateway to the affluent suburbs of Mount Pleasant, Redcliffs, and Sumner, the prominent freehold complex sits on 2,502sq m of land with a floor area of 1,160sq m and 31 car parks.
While the vendor’s son, Ben, will continue to manage both the store and cafe, there is an opportunity for the store to be operated by a new owner.
Other tenants include Oulala French wine bar, To Be Continued preloved clothing, Wink shoe store, House of Nails, and Mikeala Beauty. A billboard rental at the site provides an additional income stream with the added benefit of being able to add a second screen.
Doig says aside from its long-term appeal, the real opportunity is for an owner-occupier to take over the well-known Casual & Country, which has 380sq m of showroom space and a 150sq m warehouse.
“This portion of the property is the cornerstone of the complex, and could be made available, presenting a perfect proposition for a business owner to step into an established, high-profile location and make their mark.”
Casual & Country was established by the local couple in 1991 as a homeware store but over time has expanded into a full-service interior design destination, providing personalised consultations, custom fabrics, wallpapers, upholstery services, and interior design.
In 2000, the owners introduced the cafe, enhancing the shopping experience with a relaxed atmosphere. By 2010, Casual & Country had expanded into neighbouring buildings, occupying the entire site at 1027 Ferry Road.
The original store was lost in the earthquakes and survived for several years in a portacom and rented premises while the new complex was planned, which today is a mecca for shoppers throughout Christchurch and beyond.
