CBRE New Zealand has made two key appointments to its Valuation & Advisory Services team, adding significant expertise across the commercial and residential sectors in Auckland and Northland.

The appointments bring Richard Vaughan into the Auckland team as Director & Regional Manager of residential valuation and Melody Richards to the Whangārei office as Commercial Valuation Director.

Richard Vaughan brings more than 25 years of experience in the Auckland residential property market to his new role at CBRE, joining from Opteon where he spent the past 14 and a half years focusing on high-value residential property across the North Shore and Rodney District.

He is actively involved in the wider industry as current chair of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Institute of Valuers. He also sits on the Residential Valuers’ Forum.

Melody Richards has re-joined CBRE’s Northland team after five years away from the region, during which time she ran her own valuation practice in Thames, completing work across Thames and the Coromandel and gaining experience across diverse property types and market conditions.

She leads CBRE’s Whangārei commercial valuation team, with coverage spanning the Whangārei, Far North and Kaipara districts.

Previously, Melody was with TelferYoung in Whangārei (which CBRE acquired in 2022) where she specialised in commercial and industrial valuations and developed comprehensive knowledge of the Whangārei property market. She returns to the CBRE team with extensive experience and well-established client relationships.

Campbell Stewart, Managing Director of Valuation & Advisory Services at CBRE New Zealand, said the company continues to invest in recruiting talented people covering key market sectors.

“Recruiting experienced and skilled valuers is central to our goal of continuing to provide expert client service across all sectors of the property market. Melody brings a combination of local knowledge, trusted relationships and broad commercial experience. Having built and run her own practice, she also has a level of commercial understanding that is well suited to a senior leadership role.”

Craig Russell, National Director of Residential Valuation & Advisory Services at CBRE, said the appointments reflect the company’s continued investment in talent across key markets and sectors.

“Richard brings a fresh perspective and new dynamic to our Auckland residential team, and we look forward to combining his extensive knowledge with our existing team’s expertise to achieve superior outcomes for clients across Auckland and around New Zealand,” he said.

“His appointment reflects our continued investment in leadership and experience within our residential business, particularly in large markets such as the Auckland region. We are confident his experience and industry standing will add significant value to both our clients and our team.”

The two new appointments follow the announcement in April of Chris Bennett joining as Director of CBRE’s national Hotels Valuation & Advisory Services team.

Bennett joined the business from Colliers, where he specialised in hotel and tourism assets across New Zealand and the South Pacific. He has more than 20 years’ experience in commercial and hotel property roles in New Zealand and the United Kingdom.

He is widely recognised for his hotel valuation expertise and his understanding of tourism and hospitality assets across New Zealand and the Pacific.
