Beautiful Queenstown is one of New Zealand’s fastest growing localities and is seemingly immune to much of the current global turbulence, making it an ideal spot for developers seeking to tap into the world-famous mountainside resort’s success and popularity.

As tourism returns to pre-Covid levels and demand for quality housing surges – including amongst locals in the travel and hospitality industries, Vijay Singh, founder of Wildridge Projects, is pleased to have secured a generous 4695sqm site on Frankton Road, just minutes from the bustling town centre.

Construction is due to commence soon on The Reach: a superior development of 38 three-level, high-quality, terraced alpine townhouses arranged in eight blocks of various configurations to ensure that each unit feels unique – with stunning views across Lake Wakatipu.

Designed by Steve King of AWA Architects, the 21 four-bedroom and 17 three-bedroom homes bring together an attractive mix of materials including local schist and timber on the exteriors.

The interiors are similarly stylish with engineered hardwood flooring, wool carpets and quality joinery along with sophisticated tiled bathrooms.

Thoughtful planning sees kitchen, living and dining spaces situated on the top floor to maximise the lakeside vista, and floor area ranges from 154sqm to 192sqm – not including decks and patios, while each home enjoys private outdoor living areas and a garage.

With a decade of successful developments behind him, including around 400 units in Auckland, Singh loves Queenstown and enjoys working there.

He’s confident that he has assembled the best construction team possible, with work expected to conclude late 2027.

“I think The Reach is well positioned to be an iconic, landmark property on the Queenstown-Frankton corridor, with premium architecture and landscaping and a unique mix of residential and visitor accommodation,” he says.

Consent for 365-day visitor accommodation status means owners choosing not to live permanently in their properties can let them to visitors and three units are dual-key – allowing for both, with fully separate rental or guest use spaces on the ground floor.

“The quality of the accommodation is very important, and probably the strongest selling point is that both residents and visitors can so easily access shops, restaurants and entertainment in the town as well as the gondola,” says Singh.

He adds that interest in The Reach has been significant – with about half of the units signed up in the first three weeks, and he’s now considering buying the section next door with a view to constructing more homes there.

The Reach is being marketed by New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty in Queenstown, and agent Ben Terry confirms that sales are already steady, with local and Australian investors notably in the mix.

He says that the site had been bare for so long, many people assumed it was a reserve, adding that it’s unlikely there will be further major developments this close to town.

“There’s been a very clear response, and I think the developer has targeted this property really well. We feel that its name, The Reach, is very fitting because it’s the point in the road where you feel you’ve truly arrived in Queenstown!”
