A Parnell cliff-side landmark known as the White House that hides cutting edge modern style beneath a rare 1800s Georgian-style villa is back on the market.
Homeowner Greg says he fell in love with the house above Hobson Bay and made the instant decision to buy it five years ago - a mere 20 minutes after he walked in.
His partner Kate wanted an old house and he wanted new, so they could happily meet in the middle in the property that uniquely merges the two together.
The flat-fronted villa had undergone a major renovation project in 2011 which involved lifting it off the site and adding one flour underneath for living space. The existing two-storey villa houses the bedrooms.

The Logan Terrace house is marketed by Michael Bulgaris who says the home is very well received and people are loving the quiet street location and elevated views.
“It has a big view. It’s very exciting when you get a cliff view.”
Owner Greg loves the way the five-bedroom house flows, its textures and the use of timber in the design. He also loves the property's secluded end-of-the-road location where the loudest noise is the birds singing.
“There’s not one day that I don’t have to pinch myself.”
However, views from the cliff into Hobson Bay top it all off.
“Walking down the stairs in the morning as the sun is starting to come up is special. Sitting in the spa pool as a sun is going down with a gin and tonic looking over the bay.”
The interior design for the new part of the cliff top villa was created in 2011 by Herbst Architects.
“It’s not in that which is preserved, nor in that which is invented within it, but in the dialogue that takes place between the two,” Lance Herbst says.

On the new lower ground floor there’s a media room with a bathroom, an open-plan kitchen with granite kitchen island which caters to big gatherings. Stepping down from the wooden kitchen podium you enter the living area which looks out to the seaside and the deck.
Greg says the living area and kitchen are great for entertainment and have a wine cellar and a bar.
“I genuinely walk in there every night to find something,” he laughs.

The cliff top house has a wine cellar and a bar area on the ground floor.
The ground floor, in the original house, has two bedrooms, a study and family room, as well as the two-car garage and a laundry.
Upstairs there’s a guest room and master suite with a generous walk-in closet and en-suite.
Greg and Kate are selling as they are moving into anapartment in the city centre and have another home in the Waiheke, as their children have grown up and they no longer needed a big home.
The 406 sq m villa can be arranged to four to five bedrooms, it has five bathrooms multiple living spaces and internal garaging is ideal for family with teenage children, Greg says.
The home also has a Japanese-style terrace garden with an infinity pool on the Lot 1 which is 697sqm.
A vacant site of 970 sq m is also on sale and can be purchased together or separately by on tender November 14 or earlier as vendor has rights to sell prior to tender, says Boulgaris.
