Thomas McAlister has joined the Colliers Residential Project Marketing team as its new National Director, bringing international residential project sales expertise and client-side development knowledge to the role.

McAlister arrives at Colliers having spent seven years working for prominent Auckland-based developer Conrad Properties Group where the business conceived, sold, and settled more than 1,000 residential, commercial, and industrial units across the city during his time as the Group Sales and Leasing Director.

That role followed on from working for a commercial agency in Hong Kong where he led a team that specialised in the sale and marketing of developments across many major international markets.

During this time, he worked for a number of the world’s highest-profile developers on a wide variety of projects, including luxury residential towers and large-scale urban regeneration projects.

Having previously completed his studies in his home country of Northern Ireland, McAlister moved to London to work in residential sales before choosing to further his experience by relocating to Asia.

The Colliers Residential Project Marketing team specialises in the sale and marketing of high-quality development projects while advising on their planning, design, and delivery on behalf of their clients.

McAlister has established connections with key figures across the Colliers business and says the timing made sense for him to explore a new opportunity.

“I am hugely excited to join the Colliers Residential Project Marketing team and know my time working in agency overseas and on the client side in New Zealand has put me in a unique position for this role,” McAlister says.

“I understand the challenges throughout the lifecycle of a development, and I want to play a part in the delivery of best-in-class projects that change the fabric of our cities.”

While the residential property market has experienced challenges in recent years due to weakened economic activity in New Zealand, McAlister feels changes are afoot.

“I believe we are at the bottom of the cycle at this point and the market is now positioning itself for an upswing. There is a lot to look forward to in the development space.”

McAlister will lead a team of experts that includes Director Jeff Davidson and Associate Director Juliet Lichtenstein.

Some of the notable offerings the Colliers Residential Project Marketing team are working on include the under-construction luxury apartment developments York House in Parnell and The Domain Collection in Grafton on the northern side of The Domain.

Charles Cooper, Auckland Managing Director at Colliers, says having McAlister’s expertise provides the company with a range of opportunities to expand its reach in the residential project marketing sector.

“We are delighted to have someone join us that has such vast experience in residential project marketing given it is a highly specialised area,” Cooper says.

“Tom’s knowledge and skill set means we can leverage the connections we have developed in our 30-plus offices across New Zealand to target new markets outside of Auckland and deliver the leading full-service residential project marketing offering for our clients.”
