Before they purchased 28 Arney Crescent, the owners had been living on the same street and really loved it, so it was a no-brainer to buy this property when it came up for sale.

They’ve enjoyed the northern slopes neighbourhood for its well-connected Remuera location, as well as its peaceful atmosphere.

“It’s close to restaurants and Parnell, Newmarket and town,” one of them shares. “And it’s super quiet because it’s not a through road. We’re quite mad on quiet.”

The couple have two adult children living at home with them and she says the convenience of the buses and trains for travel to work and uni has also been incredibly handy.

The family bought the gracious 302sqm character home around four-and-a-half years ago, buying in December and undertaking a refresh renovation project before moving in in January.

“We touched pretty much all the surfaces and freshened them up, modernising to our taste and making the colours quite neutral. Floors, walls, curtains, ceilings, carpets – even down to all the doors.”

The super-spacious and well-separated floor plan is sprawled out over three levels, which has also worked very well for the family.

“It’s got lots of living areas so we can all find our own space in the house and live together really well. We’ve got a pool table, so it’s really nice when friends come over for dinners.”

The elevation, aspect and magnificent harbour views have also been fantastic.

“We love it because it’s north-facing, so it’s really super sunny and warm, and it’s very private. We open the curtains in our bedroom and can see Rangitoto from bed.”

From the landscaped entrance, the home opens to the mid-level, which features a large, light-filled kitchen and family room that adjoins a formal lounge with fireplace. Both of these rooms connect through French doors to expansive decks.

There are two bedrooms and a bathroom on this floor, while upstairs boasts magnificent harbour views from the master suite, which also incorporates a private deck, gym, ensuite and walk-in robe.

The lower level offers the third living/rumpus/entertainment room (where the pool table resides) two more bedrooms, a bathroom and good storage. The rumpus flows out to another very generous deck with a covered spa pool area.

The owner says it’s been a great family home and they’ve really enjoyed living in it with their kids. “We’re only leaving because we’re downsizing and have bought a house in Wanaka,” says the owner.

Steve Koerber, from Bayleys, says the double grammar-zoned property showcases a mix of both villa and bungalow styles and is lovely and private.

“It has lots of nice character about it and it’s facing the right way, with fantastic harbour views,” he says.

“It’s in the dress circle, enjoying a prime position right at the centre of the horseshoe of Arney Crescent. It’s perched up there like you’re watching a sports game from the best seats in the house.”
