The secret has now been revealed – the prime 2364sqm site spanning College Hill, in Freemans Bay, and Dublin Street, in St Marys Bay, will soon be home to Pillars.

A masterful collaboration between Precinct and Jasmax, Pillars comprises 20 luxury homes across two complementary boutique offerings – each reflecting the site’s premium dual frontages in an exceptional location.

Pillars of College is a four-level building with 16 sophisticated homes, while Pillars of Dublin features four refined residences across two levels. The name Pillars draws architectural inspiration from the classical column – a timeless symbol of strength, stability and beauty.

Precinct challenged Jasmax to craft a truly distinctive design – one that reflects the natural beauty of the ridgeline topography while embracing the area’s quiet elegance and strong sense of character.

Pillars of College features a one-of-a-kind façade of fluted concrete columns that provide privacy through the interplay of light and shadow. The columns’ sculptural, curved forms flow into the interiors.

Pillars of Dublin adds a contemporary layer to one of Auckland’s most historic villa-lined streets, striking a balance between heritage and modernity. Gabled rooflines and pillar accents thoughtfully reference the surrounding streetscape.

Tim Lamont, head of living developments at Precinct, shares that the site’s north-facing ridgeline and its connection to a character-rich neighbourhood were key inspirations behind the project’s innovative design.

“All the living areas in both buildings face north. We achieved that by designing the College Hill homes as ‘through homes’ – extending from the College Hill frontage to the northern edge of the site,” he says.

This affords the homes a range of iconic urban outlooks, with sweeping views of Wynyard Quarter, Waitematā Harbour, Auckland’s city skyline, and Freemans Bay extending toward Mount Eden.

While promising the ultimate in easy, elegant city living, Shannon Joe, principal and head of design at Jasmax, emphasises that these residences are far from what one might call a “downsize”. Instead, they are essentially full-scale homes in an apartment format, rather than reduced living spaces.

“These are very generous apartments at approximately 200 square metres,” he says. “We placed a strong focus on storage and display and created gallery-like spaces that work for a range of residents, while maintaining a luxury residential quality.”

Lamont adds: “We expect strong interest from people already living in the area, as well as from those in wider Auckland who see this as an opportunity to embrace a new lifestyle – one that’s closely connected to the vibrant amenities of Ponsonby, Herne Bay, Wynyard Quarter, the CBD and convenient motorway access.”

Interior finishes have been designed to reflect the standards expected by discerning buyers. A range of palette options allow residents to customise finishes to suit individual tastes and preferences. Each residence includes two secure basement car parks.

Maria Salmon, residential sales manager at Precinct, highlights another distinctive feature: the substantial gardens of the ground-floor homes, which range from 62sqm to an impressive 274sqm of landscaping.

“If you’re a gardener or have pets, these expansive outdoor areas offer a rare feature in apartment-style homes. Thoughtfully landscaped with various zones, they provide dedicated spaces for gardening, pet-friendly areas, and alfresco living – always a cherished part of our lifestyle. Even if you’re transitioning from a villa or looking to right-size your home, it doesn’t mean giving up your garden.”

For interested parties, a full display suite is available for viewing at 14 St Marys Road, St Marys Bay. Visit pillars.co.nz for open times or contact the team directly.

Louise Stringer, who is selling Pillars alongside colleague Dominique Donaghy, says: “Bayleys is delighted to be part of Pillars – a development that so beautifully captures the essence of the surrounding area. This collection of just 20 residences combines architectural excellence, sustainability, and a deep respect for community, creating homes that are both striking and enduring.

“We’re proud to represent a project that not only elevates modern living but also reflects the timeless character and lifestyle that make this neighbourhood so special.”
