NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi is selling two unique sections on a sliver of land just before the Kāpiti Expressway and the Old State Highway One veer off from each other in Raumati South.

The surplus 1613sqm and 1391sqm sections on Old State Highway 1, in Raumati South, are being sold by tender following the completion of the Peka Peka and Mackays stretch of the expressway eight years ago.

Property Brokers agent Charlie Goodyer said the listings for the sections, which were in a prominent position next to the expressway and walking bridge, had only just gone live and were already drawing interest.

Buyers were already starting to think about what could be put there because they were “pretty different”, he said.

“A lot of people have already called me about it, they are unique, so we will see how they track and what buyers they attract.”

The two sites stood out for their prime road access and prominent profile, his listing added. “It’s a pretty key location really.”

Goodyer said they could appeal to a range of buyers, including landbankers or someone wanting to build on them.

The land is currently zoned general rural, which allows for rural activities, including primary production, lifestyle blocks, and limited residential development. Any other activities, such as commercial development, would require council consent.

Property Brokers is also marketing seven 1000sqm plus sections in Raumati South, Paraparaumu and Waikanae, which are now surplus to the transport agency’s needs. Two of those sections are landlocked and have no legal access to them.

NZTA follows a four-step process when disposing of public land. The land is only offered for sale on the open market after the other options, such as transferring it from Crown to Crown / or Local Authority, offering it back to its former owners, and selling to iwi have been explored.

“The timelines vary for each stage of this process and could take several years to reach the open market,” according to NZTA’s website.

Land Information New Zealand (LINZ) must validate each disposal agreement, and the Waka Kotahi Board (or the appropriate delegated authority holder) must also approve the transaction.
