A group of like-minded marine lovers who want to mature actively on a small peninsula at the doorstep of the Hauraki Gulf have spawned a distinctive, upmarket subdivision.

Stillwater subdivision Tai Pari has 14 freehold waterfront sections inviting owners to build their dream homes, with purchase including an ownership share of extensive residents’ facilities.

Tai Pari spokesperson Pete Dawson says: “This started with a group of five couples, of which my wife and I are one, who have a shared vision of how we see our future.

“We’re all either nearing retirement or retired and have created an alternative to a retirement village. We want to ‘grow young’ with a hive of activity, surrounded by friends who keep an eye on each other.”

Their location and facilities will assist, as will the time-saving when the Penlink highway opens, including the bridge across to Whangaparaoa.

Tai Pari on the Weiti River is located at the north end of East Coast Bays and Auckland city to the south (35 minutes’ drive, off-peak). Hauraki Gulf islands are within an hour or two by boat.

Building starts soon on communal building “The Hub”, with a substantial kitchen, bar, huge TV to watch sporting events and the like, swimming pool, with the garage harbouring a tractor and workshop space. There is a dedicated section for parking trailer boats and campervans, and residents can launch off their private boat ramp at any tide.

Alternatively, they can lease one of two berths on Tai Pari’s jetty, which is great to fish off and has a substantial pontoon where visiting friends’ boats can tie up. Or they can arrange with the harbour master a swing mooring visible from their property, suitable for launches or keel boats.

Stone steps off the landscaped grounds, lapped by high tides, are ideal to laze on or swim off. The secure community will have cameras, attractive front gates with number plate recognition which can be closed at night for added security.

There is new planting completed to the already existing mature palms and pohutukawa. They’ve future-proofed by building up the land and rock armouring the surrounding sea wall.

The original five couples have bought their sites, and titles are expected within about three months. They’re looking for like-minded buyers for the remaining nine 600sqm-800sqm sections.

Liberal residence design guidelines will apply that give freedom for design. Sections are priced from $1.68m, with annual Residents’ Society fees expected to be about $6000 per property.

Pete says: “Having a community around you, stimulation and people to talk to is so important to our health and happiness. Living at Tai Pari with company will ease the minds of your own children, but what a great place for them and grandchildren to visit.”

Stillwater Boating Club and Weiti Boating Club (across the river) are nearby, the Okura Bush walk starts near their gates and Pak’nSave Silverdale is 15 minutes’ drive away until Penlink provides a five-minute drive to Whangaparaoa New World.

The Bayleys agent who is selling these sections, Ailsa McArthur, owns one with her husband, and they’re one of the five couples who’ve invested in the overall development.

She says: “This is an incredibly exciting opportunity that gets discussed amongst friends on a regular basis and has now been created for others to join. Come and bring your friends!”
