Situated on the very edge of Auckland CBD with a stunning city and sea view, 8 Harbour Street in Saint Marys Bay is an entertainer’s dream offering just about every amenity you could dream up.
Built in the 1900s, Harcourts real estate agent Ronelle Henning, who is marketing the property, notes that the large Edwardian home sits amongst other heritage villas and character houses in one of the oldest and most exclusive suburbs in Auckland.
“It has these beautiful leadlights, solid kauri flooring and very high ceilings with beautiful pressed steel – so very typical of that time,” she says.

“I love the history of the home,” a family member, speaking on behalf of the owners, says.
“It’s been around for over 100 years and actually used to house a lot of the people that were building the harbour bridge and developing the Auckland CBD.”
The family member adds that the three-storey property was once owned, lived in and extensively renovated by the Carters of building supply fame.

Though retaining many classic architectural features, the house has also been updated for modern living.
A smart home system has recently been installed, while each of the four sizeable bedrooms has an ensuite of its own.

“There are altogether five entertainment areas in the house, so you’re really spoiled for choice if you’re an entertainer – it’s a dream home for that,” Henning says.
She calls the bottom level of the house an entertainment hub with doors that slide fully open out to the pool, plenty of space for a pool table, a home theatre, and even a kitchen (in addition to the main one) complete with bar fridges.
“You can easily entertain out to the pool and watch the New Year’s fireworks from the Sky Tower,” Henning says.

“It probably has one of the best views in Auckland – just spectacular.”
The 270-degree views from the Auckland Harbour Bridge over to the iconic Sky Tower are also much appreciated by the current homeowners with a stunning outlook no matter the time or weather conditions.
“You get a view of the Harbour Bridge, Rangitoto Island, the boats and the sailing, and then you get the entire city skyline as well – the view is always changing, it's never the same,” the family member says.
“It’s the best view.”

Henning adds, “You can watch your yacht in front of you if you want.”
Compared to other houses in the area, Henning says that 8Harbour Street is substantially bigger and has a huge advantage when it comes to parking with three garage spaces and off-street parking.
“The house is in a wonderfully prime spot,” she adds.

With various walkways, Saint Marys Bay is within easy reach of Victoria Park, Ponsonby, Westhaven Marina, the Viaduct and the city.
“I love the area. In my opinion, Saint Marys is the best suburb in Auckland just because of the proximity to everything,” the family member concurs.
“Whoever buys it next, they’re going to absolutely love it. It has everything that you would ever need.”
