The A-frame home at 336 Huia Road, in Auckland’s Titirangi, doubled as a fictional Airbnb in a 2024 episode of the hit Kiwi soap opera.
Shortland Street surgeon Dr Phil Grayson, played by actor Jane Wills, finds herself on a couples retreat with two characters, Harper Whitley and Ihaia Stone, with whom she is romantically entangled.
As tensions mount, an earthquake strikes and part of the fictional Airbnb collapses, resulting in some difficult relationship decisions.

In the real world, 336 Huia Road is very much intact and is a striking four-bedroom 1970s-built home hidden among towering kauri trees.
Owner Stephanie told OneRoof that a friend had recommended her house to the show’s producers. “One of my ex-colleagues moved into the production team at Shortland Street and knew that we had a unique property, and reached out and said, ‘Hey, could we use it?’.
“We took away our personal belongings and moved out for a couple of weeks. They came in and staged it. It was pretty straightforward, pretty easy.”

Stephanie and her husband bought the home in 2016 for just under $1 million. “For us, it’s a very special house. We purchased it a month after getting married, and our two babies were born there. It’s a very well-built house that has definitely looked after us over the years,” Stephanie told OneRoof.
“We love the feeling of being amongst the kauri trees. We recognise that they’ve been there for hundreds and hundreds of years, and that in itself is quite powerful. You don’t feel like you’re in Auckland when you’re home.”
The house, which sits on a 2770sqm site and has an RV of $1.3m, was already largely modernised when the couple bought it, but they have made some improvements. “We renovated the main bathroom and laundry, and replaced the roof,” Stephanie said.

Barfoot & Thompson listing agents Lucy Pragert and Craig Castle have pitched the property to buyers as an escape from the ordinary. “This is a rare opportunity to secure a home with true soul, scale, and enduring Titirangi appeal,” their listing on OneRoof declared.
“Rich timber tones and expansive windows frame the surrounding bush, creating a calm, grounded atmosphere that makes this a truly special place to call home. The expansive decking areas create multiple spaces to relax, entertain, or simply soak in the peaceful setting all year round.
“Offering four generous bedrooms – one currently configured as a second lounge for added flexibility – plus two bathrooms, there is ample space for families, guests, or adaptable living arrangements. The entire top floor is dedicated to a master retreat, with its own spacious bathroom and room for a sitting area or creative space.”
Pragert said A-frame homes in the suburb were very popular with buyers, citing two recent sales of similar properties for just over $1m. “That 1970s bohemian eco-conscious artistic culture of that area is becoming very popular and rarer and rarer to find if they still have the interior intact. It’s really nice to see people maintaining them well.”
In Shortland Street, Dr Grayson is an ambitious surgeon who made her first appearance on the wards in February 2024. She is still in the show, and her earthquake drama brought her closer to senior doctor Harper Whitley.
