Having been Remuera residents for over 20 years, Peter and Susan were enjoying life in a property nearby when 32 Upland Road came to market in 2023 and piqued their interest.
“It was a big old house on a very large piece of land,” says Peter.
He adds that while they loved the home they were already in, he and Susan thought they could potentially create something even better still. The couple bought the property at number 32 and removed the original dwelling, carefully ensuring that most components were able to be reused or recycled elsewhere.
Now it was time to start work on their new project: A generous executive home for themselves at the front of the section and two equally high-spec townhouses – 32A and 32B – at its rear.

Those dwellings are testament to Peter and Susan’s commitment to using only the best quality materials, as well as to ensuring that each house had its own distinctive character and style.
Peter says that he and Susan assembled a team of tried-and-true experts whose work they already knew, including Hoxha Bailey Architects and Prudence Lane Interiors with Morgan Cronin to design the kitchens, and Assure Build for construction.
“32A is the middle house and it’s a slightly bigger floor area than its neighbour with an upstairs media room which enjoys views across to the city and the cranes at the port,” he explains.
The master bedroom and ensuite are on the upper level with three further bedrooms and the main bathroom, while the kitchen downstairs has a butler’s pantry.

It too has a kitchen, dining and living room downstairs, plus a separate lounge, which can be closed off. It has four bedrooms, including the master on the top storey, plus a second lounge or media room. It offers sweeping views of what Peter describes as Remuera’s heartland, with Sky Tower and the city lights.

The properties are just a short walk from Remuera Road and the Upland Road shops with Rangitoto Reserve also nearby.
Ultimately, Peter and Susan hope that in building the three houses and moving in themselves for the long-term, they will have created a small, close-knit community, which is what they’ve loved while living at their current property.
