Construction company Curated Build recognised the best way to establish themselves in the relaxed coastal location of Mangawhai was to get on and build stunning homes there.
They’re offering this distinctive modern new home there after completing and selling another last year. This latest residence is quite different from the previous one as the couple behind Curated Build, Jake and Alex Anderson, wanted to demonstrate their versatility.
Alex says: “People find the really cool architectural look to the front of the property striking. It’s clad in cool grey slimline Eurobrick and its roof has a very high pitch of 37°.”
Alex collaborated on this 240sqm home’s design with her accomplished uncle Alistair, of Alistair Watt Architectural Limited. “All our friends absolutely love it.”

Curated Build values craftsmanship, premium finishes and seamless flow. The couple have complementary skills and experience. Jake is an electrician by trade, and has worked as a project manager for an award-winning home building company for a decade. Alex’s passion for design and aesthetics melds with her organisation skills.
The parents of three moved from Milldale to Mangawhai three years ago for both the lifestyle and the business opportunity they recognised there. “We absolutely love the whole Mangawhai lifestyle.”
This 750sqm section in a sought-after street is four houses away from the estuary frequented by boaties and kayakers, with a handy boat storage facility one street away. One of the two steep roofline peaks you see from the road sits atop the internal-access double garage, accompanied by two-car driveway parking.
Alex adores the captivating entrance hallway with its big curved, plastered wall, culminating in a gallery window highlighting a feature garden and the kitchen-living-dining room with 2.7m stud height.

Your eyes are instantly drawn to an alfresco area the home wraps around to the west, which is great for entertaining, getting sun until about 7pm. Its decking and partially-inground concrete swimming pool have well-thought access into a powder room. A patio on the eastern side enjoys morning sun.
“We were very careful with the home’s orientation for the sun. I love both coffee in the morning in the sun and barbecues at day’s end in the sun, both of which you can enjoy here.”
The entertainers’ kitchen extending into a doorless scullery features delicately veined Taj Mahal stone and Fisher & Paykel appliances. An Escea gas fireplace accompanies ducted temperature control. A bespoke floor-to-ceiling built-in unit can be a bar, café nook or further storage.
The master suite with walk-in wardrobe at the home’s fore has an elegant ensuite featuring vein-cut style tiles and aged brass fittings.

Towards the rear are a main bathroom utilising these same materials and three bedrooms, one of which can alternatively be a media room-office. There is lawn front and back and two discreetly positioned 22,500-litre water tanks.
“I know this location is brilliant because we live just one street away. It’s a short walk to Mangawhai Village or to the historic Mangawhai Tavern by the water, which regularly has gigs and has a brilliant market every Saturday.”
New World and beaches are a short drive away, there are popular golf courses in the area and Auckland is 90 minutes’ drive away, off-peak.
Bayleys agent Sarah Dyer says: “Curated Build have such a distinctive style. This brand-new home has a chic coastal vibe with beautiful finishes and is full of natural light.
“Its clever layout draws you to the heart of the home and pool, creating the perfect space for entertaining. With its prime location near the village and water, it offers the ultimate Mangawhai lifestyle.”
