The fact that owners Vlad and Kim moved just 10 doors down the street to their current home in 2021, is testament to this leafy Remuera street’s enduring appeal.

Often described as the suburb’s “dress circle”, the crescent enjoys stunning harbour views sweeping out towards Rangitoto.

Kim explains that at the time, she and Vlad were trying to sort out where they wanted to be – given they were almost at the empty nest stage of their lives.

“Two of our three adult children were still living at home and because it was during the Covid lockdown period, we soon realised what a wonderful property this is – in terms of separation.

“We’d come together and hang out for meals, then everyone would go off to their own spaces to work or study and honestly, it was just perfect.”

The sprawling Edwardian-era home runs over three floors on the elevated north-facing 632sqm site.

Beyond attractive street-level garages, the property unfolds, starting with attractive well-established easy-care landscaping, which adds both character and privacy.

Kim believes that the property had been in the hands of one family for a significant part of its life and was meticulously maintained and modernised completely over the decades, with new features including extensive decking – both covered, and uncovered.

The elegant front entrance leads to the huge open-plan, contemporary kitchen, dining and living area – plus a separate formal lounge.

Kim says that she and Vlad repainted, updated the flooring and generally gave the space a cosmetic glow-up.

“We touched almost everything in the house, one way or the other, but we didn’t make any really major changes, since it works so well as it is.”

The couple especially love the master suite, which covers the entire top floor and includes its own balcony as well as an elegant ensuite, walk-in wardrobe and even a gym – set against a harbour vista.

Richard Thode, of Ray White, is marketing the property and says it incorporates everything a family could possibly want, including the very substantial living areas, as well as plenty of storage space.

“Arney Crescent is off the main drag, which means it’s very quiet and I know that these vendors have really enjoyed living here – plus there’s also potential to put in a pool, so that’s another attraction.”

Adding further to its appeal is the property’s close proximity to Orakei, Remuera, Newmarket and Parnell – plus the fact it’s zoned double grammar and lies within easy walking distance of popular private and public schools in the area.

Now that their offspring have gone off to various locations in New Zealand and overseas, Vlad and Kim are downsizing their Auckland lives, with a smaller home.

Meanwhile, a new property in Wanaka is expected to become the family’s main Kiwi base from now on.
