Expertly constructed in bluestone and cedar with a tiled roof and copper spouting, 20 years ago, this spacious waterfront Point Wells Road property was the culmination of a dream for Conrad and Barbara Blind, who at first lived in a two-bedroom cottage while the main build took place over a period of two years.
“We originally bought our 6916sqm of land from an ostrich farmer. At the time it was really just open paddocks with ostriches prancing about and some bison,” says Conrad.
“Both of us wanted something that was traditional and wouldn’t date. To be honest, this place is rather like a subtropical resort, largely thanks to my wife who is a very keen gardener.”
296 Point Wells Road in Point Wells, Rodney, is on the market for sale by a set date closing November 16. The five-bedroom, five-bathroom waterfront property has a 2021 RV of $4.075 million. According to OneRoof data, the property last changed hands in 2001 for $500,000.

Listing agent Heather Walton, of Ray White, says it’s one of the most beautiful homes she’s ever marketed, especially because it has so many notable features – including three-phase power.
“There are something like 14 varieties of fruit in the orchard, and when you see the jetty at dusk it’s just magical.
“Of course, it’s close to Matakana and Omaha and when you cross the causeway, this property somehow seems to command the point.”

The handsome home, surrounded by well-established hedging is reached via a striking entrance and high ceilings feature throughout, making a very generous 357sqm floor area feel even larger still.
The designer kitchen, complete with pantry, the dining area and family room lie centrally at the heart of the house and the lounge is behind the main entrance, enjoying an open fire for winter warmth. A separate formal dining room can seat 12 and is ideal for big family occasions.
A two-bedroom guest wing has been enjoyed by many visitors to the home while the master wing is the height of luxury with a walk-in wardrobe, elegant ensuite and a large bedroom enjoying a glorious sea vista.
Conrad is especially proud of the media room. “It has comfy chairs, a screen and a projector so it’s just like going to the movies,” he says.

Outside areas include extensive decking and a large, covered loggia making this the ideal entertaining home. If a future owner wants to install a swimming pool, there are two potential spaces already wired up. Other features include an internal access double garage, plus a boat shed and plenty of storage space.
In retirement the couple found they needed a new outlet for their energy and established a food business Cobara Authentic Foods, producing Dukkah, salad sprinkles, and an assortment of muesli, nut butter, oils and other delectable goodies, which they sell online and at Matakana Market.
The A-rated commercial kitchen is situated on the ground floor of the cottage – with two one-bedroom studio accommodation units above, which are highly sought-after on Bookabach.
Conrad suggests that there is the possibility that a new owner could also buy the Cobara Authentic Foods business, which he’s planning to sell too.
He says that he and Barbara aren’t getting any younger, so they’re on the move to Cambridge where they plan to live on a somewhat smaller scale, but they’re both going to miss their friendly coastal community, the stunning views, the birdlife and especially their own picture-perfect wooden jetty very much.
