The current owner of this remarkable property in Rodney has met former owners who told her that the early 20th century villa was moved out from its original site in Victoria Avenue, in Remuera, sometime in, or around, the 1980s.
“Apparently they spent ages deciding where to place and orientate the house in relation to the land and enhance its energy levels and light.” As it turned out those owners got it exactly right and the house and its green surroundings are testament to their love and care.
Within its period structure and features which include timber floors, ornate leadlight windows and high studs, the house has recently had an all-over refresh, and it provides more than enough room for a family, with four very generous airy bright bedrooms and two bathrooms.
Most of the walls are white which suits the home very well and art lovers will appreciate the spaces on which to hang their treasures.

The country-style kitchen is spacious and has an exceptional amount of bench and cupboard space. It segues effortlessly into the dining and general living area, where there’s an open fire.
The formal lounge is classically beautiful and there are also covered outdoor living areas and an outdoor fireplace for extra ambiance.
49 Dysart Lane in Kumeu, Rodney, is on the market for sale by auction on April 19. The four-bedroom, two-bathroom property has a 2021 RV of $2.375 million.
The current owner says that when she and her family bought the property about three years ago, they were attracted by the 1.07ha of land and the grapevines, which produce 600 bottles of Pinotage every year.
“We had visions of using the property as a wedding venue or something similar because all the lovely established trees and park-like lawns would be the most beautiful backdrop.
“We love the location too because you feel as though you’re living in the country, yet the Kumeu township is just down the road so you’re actually only a few minutes away from a good coffee or the supermarket.”
Due to a combination of circumstances the owners are now selling but it’s not a decision they took lightly.
“We love that it’s so close the local beaches, and we’re keen mountain bikers so it’s good for that too.”
Simon Spiller from Bayleys in Kumeu agrees that the location is perfect for commuters – with easy access to major roads – or even for working from home.
“It’s the quintessential character villa and it’s been loved and looked after,” he says.
“Finding this style of house on a large piece of land is unusual because they tend to be tightly held – and for very good reason. The community out here is really friendly and there are lots of vineyards to visit – and, of course, the Kumeu AMP show is a yearly highlight for everybody.”
In addition to the house itself is a separate garage and covered double carport and workshop.
Spiller says that there is plenty of uncovered off-street parking as well. “This is a wonderful spot for lucky new owners to make memories.”
