Coastal Maraetai is one of Manukau City’s best-kept secrets and properties by the sea there tend to be very tightly held, so, not surprisingly, 7 Omana Beach Road is already generating plenty of interest.
Owner Clemency says a huge amount of thought and care went into planning and designing the huge, 500sqm home 13 years ago, with a significant emphasis on future-proofing, which is reflected in many of its most notable features.
Set on an elevated 1085sqm site with well-established easy-care plantings, just metres from the beach, the home runs across two expansive levels with a convenient lift that can be used instead of the stairs for access between floors.
Meanwhile, extra wide doorways to make getting around simple and straightforward – particularly if an older resident has mobility issues.

On the ground floor lies the huge games room with a wet bar to make hosting guests a breeze.
Ideal for family use – especially if the household includes teenagers – it opens on to a handy hobby room. Two generous sunny bedrooms enjoy ensuites, while a third has the use of a large main bathroom, next to the separate laundry.
The main level has a gigantic, fully carpeted, four-berth garage for cars and boating gear, plus a workshop, leading on to the living zone, which enjoys magnificent views from all angles.
Clemency says the ever-changing vista is completely mesmerising, regardless of the season and the weather outside.

“We can see Sky Tower in the city and beyond across the Hauraki Gulf to Rangitoto and Waiheke, then it sweeps around towards the Coromandel. Sunsets over the city are spectacular and it’s always great when they put on firework displays for special occasions.”
She has really enjoyed her kitchen. It features seemingly endless bench and storage space with a handy pantry for keeping small appliances and preparing food away from visiting friends and family.
Ample open-plan dining and living space surrounds the kitchen and easy indoor, outdoor flow, via the aptly named sunroom, to extensive decking outside means the property lends itself to entertaining on a large scale when required.
“We’ve had 30 or 40 people here and it works really well,” says Clemency. Also on this floor is the luxurious master suite, which has an ensuite and a walk-in dressing room.

Mike Deverell, from Barfoot & Thompson, says a regular and reliable ferry service makes Maraetai a perfect spot for people who want the best of both worlds, working in the CBD and coming home to a holiday vibe at the end of each day.
“And Omana Beach is one that very few people know about. It feels like a private beach!”
Sad to be leaving this special seaside spot, Clemency says she’ll especially miss watching dolphins frolicking around in the waves and a steady procession of yachts crossing the water – swiftly or slowly, depending on wind speed.
“And it’s always been so easy just to take the kayaks down or to go for a swim.”
7 Omana Beach Road in Maraetai, Manukau City, Auckland, is for sale by tender, closing July 17.
