Bayleys listing Karl Davis agent told OneRoof that his clients had bought the three-bedroom home at 104 Clarence Street for $1.22 million in 2018, but were encouraging buyers with budgets of $900,000 and above to take a look.
Davis said the housing market had fluctuated quite a bit since 2018 and labelled the property's RV of $1.79m “well over the top”.
He said the vendors were downsizing and moving to Cambridge to be closer to family.

And because they no longer drive their much-loved 1975 Lincoln Continental Mark IV anymore, and no one else in their family wants it, they have decided to throw the car into the sale.
“You can buy a house and get a car for free,” Davis said, noting that the car comes with the custom plates Tupelo and has an estimated value of over $50,000.
There was nothing else like it for sale in New Zealand, he said. The tactic is working.
The house, designed by Cook Sargisson Architects, only went on the market on June 5, but it has already attracted an offer acceptable to the vendors, prompting the auction to be brought forward to this Thursday.

The woman who made the offer has no interest in the classic car, but Davis said it was still an option for anyone else who bids on the property – they just had to let him know first, so he can add a variation to the contract before the auction.
Davis said 104 Clarence Street was a beautiful home with sarked ceilings, American oak flooring and French doors that opened out onto the 954sqm section. It would be perfect for upgraders or downsizers and was, in his opinion, the best house on the street.
“It [Thames] is a strong retirement location – it always has been. There’s a hospital there, there’s good infrastructure there, and it’s a good retirement location.”
