Having examined thousands of properties through his work as director of a valuation practice, Liam knew this one was particularly special when he and wife Lizzie saw it in 2015.

The large waterfront home in the heart of Greenhithe sits on 2881sqm of land with spectacular views over Lucas Creek and wonderful privacy, peacefulness and facilities.

Liam says: “There are not many people who come here, see the view and don’t say something like ‘wow’. It’s instantly relaxing coming home to this property – it’s very therapeutic.”

Lizzie appreciates its safety, down its own driveway behind automated gates. They loved the outlook and location but saw potential to improve the more than 400sqm home. They stripped its interior and upgraded it throughout in 2017 and 2018, utilising Lizzie’s eye for design.

Two years ago they installed an automated Louvretec roof system with automated side blinds on part of the upstairs deck, with a gas fireplace enables all-weather outdoor entertaining. And last year they replaced the tiled roofing, with long run high rib colorsteel MAX for longevity within a sea spray zone.

Car enthusiasts take note, a separate double garage accompanies the internal-access double garage and plentiful off-street parking. The fully renovated two-storey home, built in the 80s, has weatherboard cladding to the upper level, with plaster on concrete block to the lower level offering a solid and trustworthy construction.

Lizzie says its double glazing “not only keeps the interior warm but also helps make it quiet”. Entry is into the upper floor’s grand foyer, which introduces an impressive line-up of north-west facing living areas, optimising the view. Lizzie says: “There’s often activity out there, including boats, passing jet skis and orca whales.”

Guests can utilise a powder room with striking Ralph Lauren botanic wallpaper. The open-plan living-entertainers’ kitchen-scullery with fireplace opens out to the Louvretec outdoor room with outdoor fireplace.

Liam says: “We particularly enjoy sitting out there to socialise and can enjoy the water activities and admire the colourful sunsets”.

This level’s entire northerly side flows out to decks, including the spacious living-dining room at the centre of the layout. Next is the master bedroom with its own sitting room and balcony, generous wardrobing and good-sized ensuite.

Lizzie says: “I love my bedroom because I can lie there just looking at the trees, the birds and the water, it is so peaceful”. The ensuite’s impressive Murano mirror, teamed with a mirrored vanity, showcases her love of Murano glass.

The front deck admires many of the property’s resort-like facilities, including the kidney-shaped heated swimming pool, spa pool in a cabana and pétanque court.

Keen golfer Liam had the lawn area at the rear transformed into a four-hole TigerTurf putting green, which is constant entertainment for friends and family. Not visible from the front deck is a glasshouse and productive raised garden beds.

The couple have had landscapers evolve and maintain the property’s planting. Downstairs four bedrooms (one ensuite) all open out to the pool area. There’s another bathroom, laundry with kitchenette facilities so guests can make their own cup of coffee, plus a man cave/wine cellar.

Liam says: “There’s an easy boardwalk down to the water and when the tide is in it’s breathtaking. I’ll swim across the water and back or take grandchildren out on a paddleboard or kayak, which they love.”

The couple plan to downsize.

Barfoot & Thompson agent Sarah Benbow says: “A true Greenhithe treasure offering luxury, space, and unbeatable waterfront serenity.”
