Shundi Customs’ iconic Seascape tower is back on track. While works had temporarily halted on the landmark development at the heart of Auckland’s CBD, a new contractor has been appointed and activity has resumed.
“The project represents a generational vision and marks Shundi’s long-term commitment to New Zealand,” says Harrison Shao, general manager of Shundi Group NZ.
“It is a building New Zealand will be proud of and one that will set a world-class standard for apartment living in Auckland.”
Seascape is the country’s tallest residential tower and its extraordinary design has been recognised with a Global Structure Award of Excellence, a first for a New Zealand building.

The structural steel mega-frame creates a striking form and the design tapers to the apex in a unique, asymmetric, chisel-like shape, which has become a highlight of Auckland’s skyline and where it will be a dominant feature for generations to come.
Icon Construction is now at the helm and has a proven track record of delivering complex high-rise projects across Australasia. Icon’s project team has now moved into Ballantyne House and hoardings are up, the hoist is operational and construction activity has already resumed.
Seascape is on track for completion in approximately 18 months from the date that fit-out commences.
Gavin Lloyd, general manager of residential projects at Bayleys, says Icon are the best contractor in the country to construct a building of this size.

“They’ve got the reputation, having built The Pacifica and 51Albert Street and many others. It’s a significant building on our city skyline and we want these projects to be successful, because our city skylines represent our endeavours and they’re a statement of our success.
“Shundi Customs are delivering some pretty amazing apartments and world-class amenities here.”
Of the 221 luxury apartments available at Seascape, approximately 50 remain, plus a limited selection of penthouses. All enjoy a north aspect, harbour views and excellent natural light.
There is a mix of studio, one, two and three-bedroom floor plans on offer, as well as three-bedroom duplex apartments with double-height balconies to maximise outdoor living space.
In a considered update, architects Peddle Thorp have also developed new two-bedroom, two-bathroom typologies which, feedback suggests, will have strong appeal to buyers.
Residents will enjoy use of the pool, fitness room and elevated outdoor terrace, while the three-storey glass atrium will activate the local streetscape and link into the lanes of Britomart and Fort Street’s shopping, dining and transport precincts.

Gavin Lloyd, general manager of residential projects at Bayleys: “Many buyers are seeing the advantage of securing an apartment now with just a 10% deposit, anticipating the real estate market recovery over the next few years and benefitting from capital growth.” Photo / Supplied
Lloyd says Seascape has been masterfully designed as the ultimate in inner-city luxury apartment living without compromise.
“Seascape combines unmatched location with panoramic harbour views, and features thoughtful living spaces designed for the way New Zealanders like to live – enjoying day-long sunlight, expansive views and ready access to the fresh air.”
He also notes the timing is just right.
“Many buyers are seeing the advantage of securing an apartment now with just a 10% deposit, anticipating the real estate market recovery over the next few years and benefitting from capital growth. Downsizers can secure an apartment now, then sell their existing home over the next 18 months. This enables them to plan their move and sell their home in a rising market.”
Prospective buyers are encouraged to visit the display suite at 81 Customs Street East, which is open 11am-12pm on Saturday and Sunday. Prices start from $886,000; contact Gavin Lloyd, of Bayleys, on 0277227377.
