Point Chevalier is a favourite among young families, dog-walkers, and photographers looking to catch some of the most stunning sunsets in Auckland, so it’s no surprise that once you live here, you never want to leave.

Christine and Claude have lived in and around Point Chevalier for 30-odd years. When land at 38A Wright Road, Point Chevalier, Auckland became available, they jumped at the chance to design and build a unique home in a part of town they have loved for decades.

“We just knew that this would be a beautiful spot to build a spacious, modern and light home that gives that ‘wow’ factor,” says Christine. “It’s lovely and private, it’s close to the water, and the outlook is just amazing.”

The brand-new, never-been-lived-in home feels like an oversized apartment that maximises the relatively small square meterage of the property, while beautifully connecting with the outdoors. It has three bedrooms, two bathrooms and space in the garage to park two cars with additional off-street parking.

“The brief to our designers was that we wanted to see straight through the front door and out to the garden on the other side,” says Christine.

“We didn’t want the door to be a barrier, and we wanted to bring the outdoors in as much as possible.”

Floor to ceiling glass invites the outside into the living areas, and when you open up all the doors the entertaining space is essentially doubled which makes the home feel even more spacious.

The master bedroom (complete with substantial walk-in-wardrobe) enjoys a fabulous view of the sea. Bathrooms feature underfloor heating, touch mirror lights, LED lighting, and pendants that create a whole other degree of sophistication and atmosphere.

An office or second lounge also with a sea outlook offers comfortable working from home options for those who like to split their time between their castle and the office.

Downstairs, the airy laundry is a thing of wonder with tonnes of functional storage and designer benchtops and cabinetry that match the kitchen.

The oversized garage, all 6 x 6.5 metres of it, is wired for electric vehicle charging and solar panels and has plenty of room for all the paraphernalia that modern life accumulates.

Each space in the home has its own highlight which sets it apart from the next. But the little features that perhaps aren’t instantly obvious are what Christine is most proud of, like the Abodo timber on the upper level of the house and the deck with its cleverly hidden fixtures.

There’s a reason why Christine and Claude have lived in the area for so long.

“Point Chev is the kind of place you never want to leave – and you never really have to.

“The birdsong is amazing, and the sunsets attract photographers from all over the city. We’re just six minutes from Ponsonby Road, a few minutes more into the city for work, and Uber takes us everywhere we want to be reasonably and quickly which makes living here even easier.

“Auckland has so many beautiful niche places to live and I can thoroughly recommend Point Chevalier to be one of those places.

“We love what we’ve built and we’re quite sure that others will see it in the same way that we see it.”

Ray White agents Angela Saunders and Paul Grace are marketing 38A Wright Road in Point Chevalier, which goes to auction on June 16.
