A tiny home in Queenstown’s wealthy suburb of Jacks Point has sold after hundreds of interested buyers bombarded the real estate agents.

New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty agents Julia Franklin and Gareth Ireland, who marketed the unusual property on Woolshed Road, in Jacks Point, told OneRoof that they had an offer in the first week of marketing – but the crowds kept coming.
“This has been one of the most successful campaigns I have ever been involved in. The enquiry was extraordinary,” Franklin said.
Ireland added: “There were enquiries coming in until the day it sold. Typically, you get a flurry of inquiry and it tapers off reasonably quickly, within a week or two.”
The 28sqm designer bach was sold with a double garage, a gym, a golf simulator and plans for a spectacular family home. The property itself comprised two sections on 1400sqm of lakeside land in the multimillion-dollar Hanleys Farm development.

“The boathouse captured people’s imagination, sitting over the water. We had those absolutely sensational photos,” Franklin said.
“That whole area is in huge demand. There was lots of local interest, as well as national - Aucklanders thinking of a holiday home.”
The owners, builder Ben Parsons and his wife Catherine, were determined to sell the two sections as a single lot. “They held out for that, and that is what we achieved. The whole thing sold together,” Franklin said.
The local buyer plans to build two houses on the land, one of which he’ll keep and the other he’ll sell off.

The agents declined to say what the buyer paid, noting that the deal did not settle until the middle of the year. However, Franklin told OneRoof earlier this year that the property had a price guide of $2.4m.
OneRoof also talked to the vendors earlier on. Ben said both he and Catherine wanted a property that embraced the “theatre” of being by the water and the views of Cecil and Coronet Peaks in one direction and the Remarkable Ranges to the east.
They pushed their architectural designer, Tony Butel, of Ground Up Studio, to elevate their plans for a simple bach and, later, a house that would make the most of both sites.

“The first design he did was pretty simple. I said, ‘Go nuts’, and he went back and redesigned it completely,” Ben said, telling OneRoof that a trip to Japan was the inspiration for the round windows and dark, earthy finishes.
“It was pretty hard to commit to, initially, but we knew if we could go dark, then everything else would become the centre of attention,” Parsons said.
Willow Pond is close to Jacks Point clubhouse and golf course and is only 15 minutes from Queenstown Airport.

Franklin and Ireland have another property on their books in the area. The four-bedroom architect-designed house at 31 Falconer Rise is for sale by negotiation.
The agents describe the home as a “masterclass in contemporary alpine living,” and in their listing highlight its classic concrete-and-timber building, schist accents and native tussock and rock landscaping. The property has an RV of $2.6m but is expected to fetch over $3m.
