With its elegant 1920s character, incredibly generous floor plan and ideal parkside location, this Greenlane property has been a truly wonderful family home for its current owners.
“We relocated down from Hong Kong back in 2017 – our kids would have been 13, 11 and 9 at the time. There’s space for everyone we’ve had all sorts of kids parties here, right up to 21sts. Entertaining-wise, it’s been incredible,” one of them shares.
The property is located on Maungakiekie Avenue, part of the elegant network of streets embracing Cornwall Park and Maungakiekie – One Tree Hill Domain.
These neighbourhoods are loved for their access to the landmark park for exercise and recreation, as well as access to motorway onramps, Newmarket, Remuera and the CBD. It’s also ideally positioned for children attending private schools.

“Our son was at Kings Prep and we also had Dio and Kings College, so for those schools it’s just been great.”
While the family fell in love with the home’s heritage, they have stylishly but respectfully refreshed it over the years.
“We like the style of older properties but like them to be modernised, so we’ve done quite a lot, but nothing structural. We redid the kitchen, upgraded the bathrooms and made the ground-floor living areas open-plan for better flow.”
The 400sqm two-level floor plan incorporates a media room/teen retreat with bathroom and wet bar, formal living and dining, two bedrooms, a bathroom, study and open-plan kitchen, sitting room and breakfast nook on entry level.

The kitchen is equipped with luxury European appliances – including Miele ovens, hob and dishwasher plus Liebherr wine and beer fridges and elegant servery windows. Upstairs offers another sitting room, two bathrooms and two bedrooms, including the luxurious master retreat with office, ensuite and walk-in robe.
The proportions and family separation on offer make it ideal for both younger and older children, with many options for large-scale entertaining and casual family relaxing. “The kitchen overlooks the pool and has beautiful high ceilings,” the owner says.
The grounds and outdoor living have been a haven for the family, with the inside flowing out to generous decks, a romantic, wisteria-covered pergola and to the poolside terrace.
“The wisteria grows like you wouldn’t believe – it’s really beautiful and flowers in October. We’ve really enjoyed the gardens and put in Astroturf at the back – we’ve had trampolines out there, a golf net and played rugby and cricket.”

The well-established gardens envelop the site and create a lovely sense of privacy. “Even though there are houses next door, the neighbours have always been very quiet do so we don’t really see or hear them at all, it’s very well secluded.”
As their three children are now leaving the nest, it’s time for the owners to move on.
“It’s that time, our youngest has just left for university and our eldest is about to head off overseas, so it’s too big of a place for just the two of us. It needs younger kids running through, laughing and giggling and jumping in the pool.”
Steve Koerber, from Bayleys, says this property really is the full package.
“It’s got incredible street appeal and is a beautiful family home. It’s got several sets of Crittall iron doors internally, which gives a really nice, high-end feel. It flows really well, with high ceilings and wonderful big separate family areas.”
