The buyers paid $2.575m for the property after it passed in auction at the start of the month, Bayleys listing agent Belinda Sammons told OneRoof.
There was a lot of interest from people from overseas in the seaside house, which spanned two sites and had wide views of the water.
“There was some from Australia and some from the States, expats looking to come home with everything that’s going on, or to just get a nice slice of New Zealand coastline, which is everyone’s dream.”

The price was strong for an original beach house, she said, and the new owners had the option to love it as it was or to renovate. “It was built over two sections which had since been amalgamated so it’s pretty unusual to find that wide a site.”
Sammons had earlier told OneRoof the house had been in the same family for 44 years.
Last month, she said working out a price indication was tricky as there had only been two sales on the beachfront in the last five years.

One sold for $1.8m and was subsequently demolished and replaced by a new-build; the other, a few doors down, sold for $2.9m.
Sammons, who listed the property with colleague Kylie Pullen, said the owners believed the bach was the first home to be built on the beach.
Captain James Cook was said to have drawn the striking pohutukawa tree at the property in his journal when he came to Simpsons Beach.

Sammons and Pullen have just listed another waterfront property for sale, at 10 Otama Beach Road, in Opito Bay. The RV is $1.38m, and the property is going to auction on April 17.
Otama is 10 minutes north-east from Kuaotunu, which is where people queue to get into the “world-famous” Lukes Kitchen eatery, Sammons said. “Otama is a cute little settlement. There aren’t too many homes there, which adds to its appeal. The beach is quite often deserted, and the water is turquoise,” Sammons said.
“The house is really comfortable, three bedrooms, two bathrooms, with a separate garage and just really low maintenance with really beautiful subtropical gardens, so it’s the perfect either permanent or holiday home.”
In front of the house is a reserve, then the beach, which Sammons says is great for swimming. “When you’re driving over the hill from Kuaotunu, and you get to Otama, and you see the water, and you think you are at a tropical island, it’s absolutely stunning.”
