More than 20 years after resource consent was approved, main construction has finally started on O Mahurangi – Penlink, the roading project that will better-connect the Whangaparāoa Peninsula and surrounding areas with wider Auckland.

The $830 million project will cut across Weiti River from Whangaparāoa Road and join State Highway 1 at Redvale. Commuters will no longer have to battle stop-start traffic on the only road in and out of the Peninsula every morning; in fact, it’s predicted O Mahurangi – Penlink will shave a significant amount of time off the average commute. Improved public transport and safe walking and bike lanes will also give residents on the Peninsula more travel options.

Not only is this exciting news for current residents, it makes the region more appealing for future residents. Significant growth is forecast on the Whangaparāoa Peninsula and surrounding areas over the coming years. In the Silverdale and Dairy Flat areas alone, an estimated 15,000 homes will be built over the next 30 years, with 6,000 of these built over the next 10 years.

Anehana Heights, located at 455 Whangaparāoa Road, will contribute to some of this growth. Featuring 29 large north-facing plots of land, all with sea views across the Hauraki Gulf, Anehana Heights promises to become one of the area’s most exclusive subdivisions.

Neil Construction Sales Manager Steve Borich says Anehana’s proximity to O Mahurangi – Penlink will let homeowners live the sought-after seaside lifestyle of the Coast while making it easy to get to Auckland.

“When the roading project is completed in approximately two years’ time, Anehana Heights will be perfectly positioned for homeowners to get to and from the North Shore and wider Auckland,” Borich says. “Situated five minutes’ drive from the Penlink interchange, Anehana Heights will allow those who are seeking the relaxed, seaside lifestyle that the Hibiscus Coast is so famed for easy access to the rest of Auckland too.

”Borich says Anehana Heights is a very special site.“Some dream properties comes with compromises, whether it’s the size of the property, the view, covenants, or distance from the city. Not at Anehana Heights. From their elevated full-size section, they’ll be free to build what they want. The views to the north extend far out to sea, while the well-appointed community will be just 40 minutes from the city. Anehana Heights really does have it all.

”Borich says that while the way New Zealanders like to live has changed a lot over the years, low maintenance is everyone’s must-have.

“The quarter-acre pavlova paradise has always been a popular way to live in New Zealand, with room for a garden and kicking a ball around. That has changed a lot over the years. We don’t stay at home and mow the lawns on the weekend anymore; we’d much rather head out for brunch or to friends’ places. Low maintenance is key for people to be able to live that easy, relaxed lifestyle.

”That’s not to say everyone wants to live in a five-storey apartment though.“

Some people want high-density and easy maintenance while others want to be able to entertain outside with the BBQ and pool. Having the opportunity to purchase an empty section rather than buying already built means people can create what they want.

”The freedom to build what you want, how you want doesn’t happen often.“

There isn’t a lot of opportunity to buy brand-new on the Peninsula anymore,” Borich says. “If you buy into a development, you often don’t have a lot of say on what you end up with either. Buying a plot of land in a popular seaside suburb like Whangaparāoa gives you a lot of freedom to build something that suits you and only you. If you need a big garage to house your hobbies or somewhere to put your boat, buying land and designing a home that works for you is the answer.

”Borich says the housing market has a positive post-election feeling."

“Many people feel like they lost something during Covid,” says Borich. “But now, everyone I talk to – agents, builders, buyers – they’re all positive. We’re ready to move on from Covid and the topsy-turviness of the last few years and enjoy our lives.

”Sections at Anehana Heights are now for sale, starting in the $700,000s. For more information, visit Anehana.co.nz
