Ian and Frances McIndoe drew on their long history with the area around Omaha when seeking an upmarket holiday home a manageable drive from Auckland.

“My mother and father lived in Omaha for more than 25 years, Frances and I have owned property there and her parents built one of the first houses there, so we know the areas around it very well,” McIndoe says.

“When we saw this property, we thought ‘where else can you buy almost 10 acres with water frontage and riparian rights, 75 minutes from Auckland?’

“In Auckland, we live overlooking Okahu Bay looking at the water every day and we could recognise how spectacular the views are from this beautiful Whangateau contemporary home.

“You look out over the estuary to Point Wells and over the next estuary to Omaha.

“Out to the left you see Ti Point and Little Barrier and out to the right you see Takatu and Tawharanui.”

The home, suitable for a permanent or holiday home, sits in an elevated position enjoying the serenity, overlooking the Omaha River near where it feeds off the Whangateau Harbour.

“It’s so peaceful. I think the loudest noise we’ve heard there was the sound of a kookaburra,” says McIndoe.

As part of the waterfront lifestyle you’re able to take mown paths from the home to the property’s waterfront frontage to kayak or boat.

McIndoe understands the previous owners were American and they created this well-proportioned 300sqm home.

They refurbished a Hinuera stone studio and extended it by building in cedar with the new construction completed in 2019.
