Media firm NZME has appointed James MacAvoy as the new head of its property division, OneRoof.co.nz.

MacAvoy will start in the role on Tuesday next week, replacing Greg Hornblow, whose departure was announced by the company in early November.

MacAvoy has more than 20 years of leadership experience in technology businesses across New Zealand and internationally, including Trade Me, Retail Works, OnSend.com, Xero and Goodnest.

NZME also owns the NZ Herald and a suite of radio stations, including Newstalk ZB, ZM and The Hits.

As chief of OneRoof, MacAvoy will be responsible for driving its growth and strategic development.

“His expertise spans product development, data analytics and online customer acquisition, with particular strength in building platforms that connect businesses with consumers,” NZME said in a press statement.

“MacAvoy has deep experience working with diverse client audiences, having built teams and partnerships across markets in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and the USA, and has a proven track record in driving operational excellence and strategic growth in competitive digital environments.”

OneRoof competes against digital platforms such as Trade Me and realestate.co.nz for real estate listings.

“We are thrilled to welcome James to lead OneRoof into its next phase of growth,” NZME chief executive Michael Boggs said.

“His exceptional track record of building and scaling technology platforms, combined with his deep understanding of marketplaces and consumer behaviour, makes him the perfect fit for this role.”

MacAvoy said: “I’m excited to join the OneRoof team and I’m looking forward to harnessing world-class technology and design to deliver Kiwis the ultimate property marketplace experience they deserve.”
