Construction company owner Rick and his dad Bryan had good reason to choose sought-after Mangawhai gated community The Sanctuary Estate as the place to build a luxurious home to sell.

Rick’s company had built his dad and stepmum their own premium home in the community eight years ago and they’ve loved living there ever since.

Rick says: “Dad came to me one day and said ‘there’s a great section here that one of my contacts said might be up for re-sale’. It’s only three doors up from dad’s so now we’ve completed this home you can see it from his alfresco area.”

The Sanctuary Estate houses lifestyle properties sharing two tennis courts, two lakes, more than 70ha of protected native bush with walking tracks and abundant olive trees. The olives are harvested annually and residents participating in the harvest receive about five litres of locally pressed olive oil. The estate is minutes from Mangawhai’s beaches, golf courses, markets, vineyards, and cafes.

Rick, who’s produced more than 300 residential homes in his 30 years in construction, his wife Heidi, dad and stepmum Kerry put their heads together to agree on what the luxury home should feature. Rick says: “We wanted it to be something we could picture ourselves living in. This home could suit a family or a couple that loves entertaining.”

The north-facing single level home sits on a generous 8337sqm site with rolling green views. Its exterior is a combination of dark Italian brick and stained Triclad weatherboards. Abundant off-street parking introduces the home, which incorporates internal-access triple garaging.

A gable-roofed entry porch opens into the foyer, unfurling into a spacious open-plan living-dining-kitchen with scullery. Floor-to-ceiling windows emphasise the outdoors, while its gabled ceiling amplifies the sense of spaciousness.

“This space flows out to an alfresco area which also sits under a gabled roof, adding to the sense of grandeur.”

An interior designer assisted with décor choices and Kitchenworks Warkworth designed and crafted the entertainers’ kitchen.

“This house would be the ultimate for entertaining. There are double sliding barn doors between this area and the neighbouring media room, which you can open up to unite the two rooms. And there is really expansive kwila decking to spread out across too.”

The layout emphasises two wings, one being the primary suite with big bedroom, large walk-in wardrobe and its own deck, perfect to retreat to. The other wing sits beyond the living room able to be united with the open-plan area. Its three bedrooms have their own living room and upmarket bathroom with bath, and a laundry completes the layout.

The home has a ducted smart heat pump system with zone control. There’s a level area outside the media room which would suit a swimming pool should it be desired.

The grounds include olive trees and are fenced with post-and-rail fencing.

“One of the great things about the estate is that it’s a friendly community in which you can choose to immerse yourself, or you can choose to be as private as you like.”

Agent Cristina Casares says: “The moment I walked into this home, I fell in love, the view, the light, the layout ... and you can tell it’s been built with high quality and real attention to detail.

“I love how private and peaceful it feels, yet you are part of a truly special community. There are bush walks, tennis courts, and with my Latin background I think it’s amazing that you get your own olive oil harvested from the grove each year. It’s not just a home, it’s a lifestyle.”
