When Andrew Holden and his wife Catherine were looking for a luxury, lock-and-leave home that was close to the ocean and handy to the Harbour Bridge, they came up empty-handed.
“We might have been a bit naive in the beginning,” admits Andrew. “There’s a lot of construction activity going on in parts of Auckland like Remuera, including townhouse development. But the closer you get to the bridge, top-of-the-line, free-standing townhouses are rarer than hen’s teeth.”
The couple was searching for a high-quality, free-standing home in the Herne Bay area that was close to the water and on a small plot of land.
“There are plenty of apartments going up in and around Herne Bay, but we didn’t want to live above, below, or in between anyone else as is common with those sorts of developments. There are also lots of big, beautiful homes on large plots of land, but we wanted something that required virtually zero maintenance.

“We couldn’t find anything that ticked all our boxes. So, we decided to build it ourselves.”
The result is “Honour”, a boutique townhouse development of just three beautifully-appointed, free-standing homes. Andrew and Catherine will live in one, while the other two are now available to purchase off-the-plans.
Located at 65 Hamilton Road in Herne Bay, Auckland City, Honour has been designed by Lindy Leuschke from Leuschke Group to maximise the site’s location, views and sun, while reflecting the luxurious lifestyle associated with Herne Bay.

Spread across three levels, the townhouses’ north-facing aspect captures a stunning view of the Waitematā Harbour. High ceilings maximise the light and outlook, while substantial sliding doors blur the line between inside and out.
Curated by Al Paget from Pipi Design, the interiors feature the finest quality and luxurious finishes. Designer Matisse kitchens, Gaggenau appliances, marble bench tops and Forte European oak flooring create an effortless sense of luxury.
The bathrooms are equally elegant, with custom-made vanities, Italian tapware and marble tops. Additional benefits include a dumb waiter and interactive security systems. Outside, landscaping by Shafer Design completes the picture of these beautiful homes.
“We believe the design of these homes is very unique,” says Andrew. “There’s a sense of longevity to it, which isn’t always the case with developments. It’s a striking design that will stand the test of time.”

Maria Salmon, from Reeveal Projects, who is marketing the property, says Honour is unlike anything else in the area.
“The Holdens’ intent from the beginning has been to create something extraordinary, and they have absolutely achieved that,” she says.
“Every detail has been highly considered, and I believe these homes will meet a demand in the wider neighbourhood. There isn’t anything quite like this in the Herne Bay area. These two homes will suit a buyer looking for an opulence and refinement on a global scale.”
The opportunity to share their vision of a luxury home in a pristine location is part of the plan.
“We have such a vision for these homes and would be delighted to meet prospective purchasers to share it with them,” says Andrew. “We’re looking for like-minded people who have an appreciation for great quality and design.”
Resource and building consents have been approved and construction is imminent. 65B and 65C Hamilton Road in Herne Bay are available for purchase off-plan.
