A two-storey Auckland villa once owned by New Zealand’s Green Goddess, Wendyl Nissen, sold this week for $4.575 million - $150,000 above its RV.

Ray White listing agent Scott Wither said the four-bedroom house on Schofield Street, in Auckland’s Grey Lynn, was snapped up within five days of hitting the market.
Wither told OneRoof that the buyers used to live in the popular inner-west suburb and had been desperate to return. “The buyers are ex-Grey Lynn returning to the city from a different part of the country,” he said.

The family had seen it online when it last sold and didn’t want to miss out on their chance to own it. Their offer convinced the vendors to cancel a planned auction for the house on October 15.
“It is a pretty unique home for Grey Lynn in the sense that there are not too many double-storey single bay villas like it in the suburb. It feels more like what you’d tend to find at the top end of the market in Freemans Bay.”
Wither, who marketed the home with sister Chloe, wrote in his listing on OneRoof that the villa featured an expansive living zone stretched across honey-coloured floors, opening to a large west-facing deck with a wood-burning fireplace and manicured gardens.

A separate formal lounge opened to a balcony, and a generous terrace provided another north-facing outdoor retreat.
The master bedroom has a front-row view of the Sky Tower while the three bathrooms echo the home’s understated elegance. It also boasts an office and flexible space for a wine cellar or media room.
Wither told OneRoof that the quick sale reflected the revival in Grey Lynn’s housing market. “I have sold $20 million worth of local property in September, so this is about the strength of the market more than anything else,” he said.

He said there was strong demand for both renovated, large-scale homes and do-ups, noting that he had recently sold a run-down house on Millais Street on the back of five offers.
He said the Schofield Street property had attracted a lot of interest in the short time it was on the market. “We had a whole lot of people from the neighbourhood who came to the property. They were not active in the market, but they were drawn to the house.
“Sometimes you walk into renovated villas that feel quite soulless – this was not that. This is the sort of property that tugs at the heartstrings.”

The New Zealand Herald featured a story about the house back in 2013 when Nissen and her husband Paul Little were selling up to move north to Hokianga.
In the 2013 article, Nissen said she thought she would live in the Schofield Street house until she died, but the time felt right for a change.
“We’ve been really happy here, and I just know someone’s going to walk in and fall completely in love with it.”
OneRoof reported in August that Nissen and Little had sold their Hokianga lifestyle block and had moved back to Auckland to be closer to their grandchildren.
