The fact that it’s more affordable to build in Australia than New Zealand is often asserted, in this case creating opportunity for Kiwis who fancy owning a luxurious apartment in one of the Gold Coast’s most famed beachside precincts, Main Beach.

Sixteen of The Monaco’s 24 sophisticated half and full-floor apartments have already sold. They’re able to be configured as you wish, many larger than an average freestanding family home.

“New Zealanders are an obvious target market for us. Six full-floor and two half-floor apartments are now available, with pricing around AUD$5 million for whole-floor apartments which are around 380sqm in size,” Ignite Director Gary Gordon says.


“If you could find a comparable single-level luxury apartment of that size in New Zealand with The Monaco’s level of specifications, including elements such as travertine marble and bespoke Italian kitchens, it would probably cost you at least double that.

“It largely comes down to the fact that at even at this end of the market it’s a lot more affordable to build in Australia so New Zealand buyers can get a lot for their money over there.”

The eight available apartments sized from 177sqm to 388sqm are priced from A$1.8m to A$5.65m.

“The weather in the Gold Coast is described as ‘beautiful one day, perfect the next’ so these are a really attractive alternative when you consider there are New Zealanders spending $8m on a house in Omaha or a place in Queenstown.”

Gordon has been in property development across the affordability spectrum for 20 years, currently one of Ignite Projects’ two directors and MD of Auckland terrace housing developers Solution Street.

“There’s nothing I’ve seen in New Zealand which is comparable,” he says of The Monaco.

“This is ultra-premium luxury with amazing views out over the sea, to the Spit in the north and out over the Southport Yacht Club.”


High profile Rothelowman Architects designed the strikingly curvaceous 24-level concrete tower with expansive private wrap-around balconies and floor-to-ceiling windows maximising stellar views.
