Set in a quiet corner of Whenuapai enjoying easy access to Auckland CBD, via the motorway with a journey time of around 30 minutes or sooner on a good day according to owner Nolene, this versatile property offers the best of two worlds with a well-established, private garden that enjoys a peaceful rural vibe and a recently refurbished family home.

“When we bought here three decades ago, there was a little old cottage which we lived in for two years while our dream home was being built,” Nolene says.

Here, as Noelene says, is 90C Waimarie Road in Whenuapai, Waitakere city in Auckland.

“We think it might have been the gardener’s house for a previous homestead.”

“Once our new home was completed the cottage was taken away and our pool is now situated where it stood.”

Nolene says that the section was gradually cleared and her green thumb took over early on.

“I have really loved just putting things in and seeing them grow.

“I think that we’ve achieved a lovely subtropical feel, and over the last couple of years I’ve adapted the garden to make it really easy-care for a new owner.”

The house itself is set across a single level and was very carefully designed, with family in mind.

A large lounge and dining space with a well-appointed semi-separate kitchen lies within the sun-drenched main living zone, along with a generous master bedroom, which has its own bathroom, a spacious wardrobe and access to an expansive covered section of deck.

This is where Nolene and her husband Chris have discovered is the most perfect spot for a morning coffee.

Meanwhile, there are three further bedrooms, plus a home office and a good-sized family bathroom.

Nolene and Chris made semi-major changes to their home around 2014 and the renovation included moving out an original internal access garage in order to create more living space, then adding another.

Leila Morris from Barfoot & Thompson, West Harbour branch, who is marketing the property with Zoe-Lou Morris, says that properties of this quality are few and far between.

“These are truly park-like gardens, with cherry blossom, mature trees, vegetable beds, roses with lots of green lawn – and the scope for outdoor entertaining in summer is huge.”

She says that the property is well set up for elderly relatives or teenagers with its self-contained bedsit situated where the original garage once stood.

“This floorplan has been very carefully thought out and with the office directly inside the front door, it’s ideal for working from home as clients can easily come straight in and out again.”

Nolene and Chris run a successful business in nearby Kumeu and are planning to expand their horizons over the coming years.

“What we would really want to put out there is that this a family-friendly property in a friendly neighbourhood,” she says.

“With lovely cafes nearby and a boat ramp at the end of the street, what more could you want?”

90C Waimarie Road in Whenuapai, Waitakere city in Auckland will be sold at auction on October 29.
