The landmark property, formerly an asparagus farm, has been owned by the same family for about 100 years, but they have finally decided to sell and move on.

Lindisfarne College’s lease runs out in 2026, and the vendors are looking to take advantage of the property’s development potential.

College rector Stuart Hakeney said the school had enjoyed a positive working relationship with the owners, but did not respond to OneRoof’s questions on whether or not the school was looking to make an offer or what would happen if the boys could no longer play on the fields.

Mint Realty listing agent Nic Goodman said the property was a standout in the market. “It’s a huge piece of land. I’ve had incredible interest already from an interesting mix of people and organisations,” she told OneRoof.

The land, called Ranui, spans two titles - one 3.63ha, the other 2.42ha - and is almost as big as Lindisfarne College’s main campus.

Goodman said the property presented a lot of opportunities for developers, both residential and commercial.

She pointed out that neighbouring sections on Lyndhurst Road had been bought by developers and commercial investors, which was a sign of the market in the city.

The location was just five minutes from Hastings Hospital, opposite Frimley Park and near several schools including neighbouring Lindisfarne College and Hastings Girls High School.

Lindisfarne College is one of the country’s elite state-integrated boarding and day schools. As well as Dagg and Randall, former pupils include ex-All Black John Timu, Olympic rower Tom Mackintosh, Paralympic swimmer Duane Kale and equestrian Daniel Meech.
