While large and ultra-luxurious apartments are regular fixtures on the property scene in Auckland Central and its surrounding neighbourhoods, they’re not nearly as common on the Shore, which is why 501/28 Killarney Street in Takapuna is attracting significant interest.
On the market for enquiries over $7.5 million, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom apartment has a ratings valuation of $4.8m.
A spokesperson for the family trust, which currently owns the property, says that the deluxe dwelling was originally designed as two apartments, and it takes up an entire floor in the glitzy Lakeview development, which is situated just moments from the heart of Takapuna with its many boutiques and eateries and of course, the famous, white, sandy beach which is within easy reach.
“This is good because it means they effectively have their own lift and their own lobby. The only other person who can come in and out is the building manager.”

She says that the family felt very safe in their home when Omicron began making its presence felt in the community and they were impressed with the building manager’s attitude, keeping a constant eye out for anything untoward.
“Obviously this apartment is extra-special because it has fantastic views, looking to Auckland City, Rangitoto and Lake Pupuke and it’s always full of light.”

A wing comprising two bedrooms with a shared bathroom lies at the left of the main entrance to the apartment and an ensuited bedroom with walk-in robe lies at the other side, with a TV lounge beside it.
The magnificent kitchen, at the centre of the property, is complemented by the surrounding living areas including dining space, a casual living room (flanked by two expansive loggias) and a library, all of which have tall ceilings and large double-glazed windows, which help retain warmth in winter.
The spokesperson says that family members worked closely with architects and designers, Matisse, to produce the ultimate entertainers’ cooking space, complete with imported marble benchtops and Gaggenau appliances. Adjacent is an enormous, well-equipped butler’s pantry.
The statement ‘Melt’ pendants by designer Tom Dixon, hanging above the huge centre island provide a sensational talking point. Beyond this zone is the master suite with its large bathroom and office.

Gerry Petrie, of Premium Real Estate, Takapuna, who is marketing the property with Alison Parker, also emphasises that what makes this property so attractive is its rarity.
“It’s only two and a half years old and in fact was only recently completely finished. At 300sqm (excluding decks) it’s a very big home and everything about it is completely sumptuous. I think it would really work well for locals coming out of traditional family homes in the neighbourhood and looking for something that’s all on one level,” he says.

Petrie says another drawcard is the number of parking spaces included with the property.
“There are nine, which means that family gatherings and dinner parties will be a breeze because guests don’t have to try and find carparks, which are often at a premium around here.”
The apartment has a further, smaller loggia and two decks and is right next door to leafy, green Killarney Park.
