Heard’s long history in the area began in 1971, when he took on a lease for land upon which a new candy factory would be built. In need of some land for himself within range of the factory, he purchased the land originally housing a small cottage. He has spent the 48 years since curating his property to idyllic perfection.

Four years after buying the site, Heard built the inspiring family home. Architect Robert Railley, famed for spatial arrangement and designing “large houses for the well-heeled”, garnered Heard’s attention and he recruited Railley to design the home. “I liked his nice roof lines,” Heard says. The residence is impressive, and rather like Heard, has an astute character and approachability.

The home underwent another project in 1995, with the addition of extra bathrooms, bedrooms, a family room and a new kitchen. Though conceived decades ago, the cedar-clad house has remained contemporary.

High-peaked stud ceilings top the ample space of multiple rooms, including five bedrooms and a media room across one level. The home is both impressive yet relaxed. Vast floor to ceiling windows and sliding doors feature throughout, taking full advantage of views to the landscape. The outlook of the large modern kitchen feels as though it’s on the lake, where the mornings are best spent observing the water and the wildlife surrounding it.

Suitably named Lollipop Lake, Heard says it was his dream to build. “The charm of this property is that three streams meet and flow into the lake, fresh clean water is the lifeblood of the property” he says. One thing is clear, Lollipop Lake has been the source of endless delight for Leonard Heard and his family. He cites watching the bird and aquatic life as the best part of his day. Water pursuits are not limited to the lake. A beautifully maintained pool fronts the home, rendering this charming rural property complete.

To call the outbuildings on the property sheds feels like an understatement. Three in total, including one that would easily serve as a commercial space. Complete with a mezzanine and tailored for enterprise, it has all the capacity from which to operate a successful business.
