Izard, who made his fortune from making tungsten carbide-tipped sawblades and then gifted millions to charity, died in January 2024, aged 89.

His estate in the exclusive Whakamoenga Point overlooking Lake Taupo is up for grabs, along with the impressive caretaker’s residence next door. The properties have a combined RV of over $7m.

Listing agent Penny Lyons, from New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty, said Izard’s home at 49 Whakamoenga Point was of Taupō's best, if not the best.

"This remarkable 865sqm architectural masterpiece—designed by Fraser Cameron Design—represents the pinnacle of luxury living. Every room captures sweeping panoramas across Lake Taupo to the iconic volcanic peaks of Mount Ruapehu, Mount Tongariro, and Mount Ngauruhoe," she writes in her listing on OneRoof.

The four-plus-bedroom home, clad in Hinuera Stone and cedar, is one of 56 properties in the neighbourhood and sits on a 4436sqm section.

Next door is the five-bedroom caretaker's residence, which Lyons and her co-listing agents, Sacha Pocock and Scarlett Wood, describe as "private, tranquil, and impeccably designed".

Izard moved to Taupō later in his life and set up Izard Air in the lakeside town. He also donated $1.8m to Lake Taupo Hospice to buy accommodation for terminally ill patients.

Lyons said while Izard had been well-known in the community, not as many people knew about his stunning home tucked away in Acacia Bay.

In 2010, Izard and his wife, Patience, commissioned award-winning architect Fraser Cameron to design their house, which is the largest in the gated community.

No expense was spared, with the trophy home featuring a swimming pool and spa, a boat shed, and a seven-car garage, in which Izard stored his collection of classic Audis and Bentleys.

Lyons said Izard's home and the neighbouring caretaker's residence boasted stunning lake and mountain views. “It’s about bird life and the flora and fauna. So that’s what people love about it. They can go out there and not see their neighbours, but there is a good community out there.”

The properties also have access to the gated community's shared tennis courts, boat ramps and helicopter pad. Close by are two world-class golf courses and an international motorsport track.

Lyons expects Izard's house to sell for well above $5m and believes it will be of interest to both local and overseas buyers.

The listing of Izard's home follows the sale of the Taupō bach owned by another wealthy New Zealand family.

The three-bedroom “fisherman's cottage”, which sits on 1.21ha of land on the Western Bays of Lake Taupō, had been a holiday getaway for the Richwhite family for more than 100 years.

It first hit the market in February 2024 and was sold in July this year for an undisclosed sum.
