It’s always notable when a dwelling stays in one family for over half a century and one of the owners Amy, who is selling this appealing West Harbour property, says that it’s the only home she’s ever known.
“My parents bought here in 1970, when there were barely any other homes on Trig Road. It was an amazing place to grow up in. Back then it really did feel like you were out in the country.”
Amy and her husband purchased the property from her parents in 2001 and extended the original concrete block home significantly.
“We took it from three to five bedrooms and added two bathrooms, plus a games room and internal access to the double garage. We wanted to put our touches on it. My favourite part of the home is the master bedroom, it’s huge and I love how it overlooks the green and leafy outdoor spaces.”

The living area opens out to the expansive lawn and is one of the most used areas of the property. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, while a well-appointed master suite with an ensuite bathroom and his and hers wardrobes are situated on the second level, along with two more bedrooms and the family bathroom.
“We’ve got a number of other outbuildings, including a plastic greenhouse and a studio that mum used to do her pottery in years ago, all sorts of spaces, for all sorts of uses.”
Amy says that her children had a childhood every bit as enjoyable as her own, spreading out across the 4889sqm family property.

“We’ve had go-karts, quad bikes, chickens, ponies and giant blow-up slides, so much room and so many kids’ parties. It’s been great.”
Now that the offspring are adults, Amy says that it’s time to move on. “We’ve got another project ahead now – over on the Shore.”
She’s going to miss the incredible sense of privacy that she’s always relished and the native birdsong which fills the air, making it hard to believe that just down the road there are shops, supermarkets, cafes, parks and motorways.
Another very appealing aspect is the proximity to excellent educational facilities, including Hobsonville Primary School and a very popular local kindergarten.

Amy owns Universal Realty and has entrusted Glyn Taylor and Gaye Fearon to market 10 Trig Road. She says there’s just no one else she would choose to sell her family’s home. “They know how much it means to me.”
Both Glyn and Gaye agree that this a unique lifestyle property, situated right on the fringe of suburbia.
“Currently with Future Urban zoning, this property represents a rock-solid investment. Potential for subdivision and re-sale or provision of sections for the next generations of your family,” they say.
10 Trig Road in West Harbour, Waitakere, Auckland, is on the market for sale by negotiation.
