A European family on holiday in New Zealand this summer paid over $11 million for two clifftop homes in Auckland's Takapuna.

Harcourts agent Sally Wang told OneRoof that the buyers had spotted the listing for the neighbouring Clifton Road properties before their trip, and had decided to check it out in person.
“They came here for a holiday, to view, and decided to purchase,” she said. "The lady loved the view and the privacy.”
Wang said that the family looked at other listings before settling on Clifton Road, adding that they had relatives in New Zealand and planned to relocate.

The vendors, who split their time between New Zealand, Australia and China, had used the water-facing, modern five-bedroom home as their city bach. They bought it 12 years ago for $7m but had only used it a few times, Wang said.
They bought the neighbouring 1970s five-bedroom home at the same time for $1.525m and had rented it out.
Wang said in her listing that the older property could be bowled and turned into "a tennis court or luxury garden to spoil yourself and your family”.
The combined RV of both properties was $14.5m.

Wang first listed the properties in 2023 and put the long sale time down to buyer nerves around cliff-top properties. Initially, the vendors had been looking for $13.5m, she said.
“For a price range like this, a couple of years is normal to sell. The [owners] live overseas, so it was just for holidays, but then they wanted to cash out,” Wang said.
The agent said she had another beachfront property quietly on the market that will also be looking for over $10m.
Further north in Takapuna, Precision agent Andrew Dorreen has just sold a seven-bedroom waterfront home with an RV of $16.25m.

Dorreen could not comment on the sale price but had told OneRoof last year that he expected the property on Lake View Road to set a street record.
The masonry home by renowned architect Daniel Marshall was spread over 600sqm in several pavilions on a nearly 3200sqm section. It included a gym, a tennis court, a 25-metre swimming pool, a wine room, a library, a large pontoon, a lakeside dining area and a boat shed.
Dorreen also sold three properties in the Takapuna area in the space of a week. OneRoof records show one of the properties sold for $8.3m.
“In general, in the last six weeks there has been a lift in enquiries,” Dorreen said.
“The year started very slowly, with buyers being selective. Despite more than 10 deals falling over for various reasons, I have concluded over $70m [in sales] in the last six months ... a little down on last year.”
Dorreen is marketing a Hamptons-style mansion at 29 Minnehaha Avenue, in Takapuna, and a modern family compound of three houses designed by Athfield Architects at 25-27 William Street. Both are expected to fetch more than $20m.
