Duffy, who opted out of New Zealand’s tour of England this month for the birth of his daughter, bought the four-bedroom pad at 5 Goddard Way, in Sawyers Bay, last year for just under $1.2m.
The property was a step up from the first home he and his wife, Tash Cameron, owned.
“When we moved out to Sawyers Bay, we wanted something a little bit semi-rural, and a bit more modern and cozier to get through the Dunedin winter. We found this beautiful home with exactly what we needed, and it had a good backyard too, which was important,” Duffy told OneRoof.

“Then my wife fell pregnant, which is awesome, and now we’ve just had a little bundle of joy.”
However, the reality of a new baby and the fact that Duffy is away so much for New Zealand tours and Indian Premier League games meant it made more sense to move back into town, closer to family.
Tash also runs her own business, Baked & Raised, so being away from help didn’t make sense.
“We reversed on the semi-rural living,” Duffy said. “I’m away a lot with cricket eight, nine, 10 months a year, and Tash wanted to be a little bit closer to town. We’ve got family in Dunedin, and it’s closer to the major supermarkets and things like that.”

He said they were lucky to find a modern house with a decent amount of flat land in Andersons Bay. “We’re already in the new place, back in town near the beach,” he said.
In some ways, the Sawyers Bay home is better than their new one, Duffy said, adding that their move had nothing to do with the house itself.
What they especially loved about 5 Goddard Way is that it’s open-plan and set up to take full advantage of the world outside, including Otago Harbour and the surrounding farmland. “You get a lot of light coming through the sunroof.”
He told OneRoof that the kitchen, with its high-spec finishes and large walk-in pantry, had been a big drawcard for Tash, who ran her business from the home. “The kitchen’s beautiful and opens into the lounge. It’s very homely, comforting, and warm compared to what we’d come from,” Duffy said.

“And there is some awesome technology in the house. The guy who built it was a bit of a tech freak. There are self-raising sunroofs, there’s Bluetooth throughout the whole house and little things like that, which we found quite cool.”
Another big drawcard was the backyard, important for a cricketer. “There’s very good garden space. We have two decent lawns, a large flat section, which is hard to come by in Dunedin, and a nice wee outdoor area for hosting.”
He said there was room to bowl a cricket ball, but joked that his daughter “wasn’t yet old enough to play” just yet.
Duffy has had a whirlwind 18 months, both professionally and personally, with new homes, a new baby, and an IPL title under his belt.
“I’m playing pretty full-time for New Zealand. We had a World Cup in India between January and March, and then I was in the IPL.” He flew back to New Zealand a week before his daughter was born, forgoing the current tour of England. “There was no way I could be in England because our baby was due in the middle.”
Duffy said he would rejoin the team shortly. “I’m off to the West Indies in a couple of weeks for a one-day series. Then New Zealand cricket has a big summer coming up. We’ve got big tours with India, Australia and the likes coming over here, which is probably one of the biggest summers we’ve had in a long time. Exciting.”
Tall Poppy listing agent Andrew Berryman said the 235sqm home was completed in 2020 and “showcases contemporary architecture, quality craftsmanship, and thoughtful design throughout”.
