A Dubai-based Kiwi and her husband have bought a luxury manor on Auckland’s northern fringes after flying in for an intense week-long tour of around 30 properties.

New Zealand Sotheby’s International Realty agents Jackie Parker and Kristina Marmont told OneRoof that they had noticed an uptick in overseas interest since the loosening of New Zealand’s foreign buyer rules in March.
Parker told OneRoof that their Dubai-based buyers reached out in February and asked the agents to take them on a real estate road trip.
“The brief was ‘coast to country’ – anywhere on the North Shore,” Parker said, explaining that the couple wanted their children to go to Kristin School, a well-regarded independent school in Albany.
The agents drew up a list of houses, which ranged from do-ups to immaculately renovated homes.

She noted that while they were increasingly working with overseas buyers to find properties, they were not engaged as buyers’ agents, where clients pay the agent for the search. Instead, they showed buyers a combination of their own and other agents’ listings in what is known as a conjunctional.
“We’re grateful to colleagues from other agencies who assisted us. There were agents from all the other brands to showcase their properties,” Parker said.
The house that ticked all the couple’s boxes was a seven-bedroom manor on Sunnyside Road, in Coatesville. The property, which was listed with Paterson Luxury agent Caleb Paterson and Melanie Mak, sits on 14,500sqm of land in the heart of central Coatesville, within walking distance of the village. The property includes two pools – a 12m heated pool and a 3m deep diving pool – a full tennis court and walking paths.

The asking price on the listing had been $6m, and while Parker declined to say what the couple paid, she indicated it was “in excess of $5m”.
“They wanted pretty grounds, somewhere they could see their family growing up. They wanted a local cafe, easy access to school and the opportunity to be part of the community,” Parker said.
“Once they saw Coatesville, and the lifestyle and land they could get there, all of a sudden they knew. It was a complete contrast to Dubai.”
Parker said that the couple has already begun planning a renovation, so she and Marmont have now switched to helping them find skilled tradespeople to do the work.
She said the couple have also referred several of their friends in Dubai – including expats and AIP visa holders – to the agents.

“In this political climate, New Zealand is superbly positioned. It’s a haven and good value for money. Many are spending in excess of $5m,” she said.
Last month, OneRoof reported two high-profile purchases in Coatesville by international buyers.
A foreign buyer bought a sprawling eight-bedroom, eight-bathroom trophy home on Goldflats Lane, in Coatesville, for close to $18m, in a deal brokered by Precision agent Nicky White.
And an AIP visa-holder bought a sprawling six-bedroom home on Mahoenui Valley Road for over $11m. The deal was brokered by New Zealand Sotheby's International Realty agent Natalie Newton.
The mansion was previously the home of reality TV star Michelle Blanchard and her husband, David, and even featured in episodes of the Real Housewives of Auckland.
