Escape to this exclusive off-grid estate overlooking the Tasman Sea with uninterrupted views of Buller Bay. Located in the bespoke Nikau Landing subdivision, this architecturally designed home is nestled atop an elevated approx. 4.69 ha landholding, surrounded by protected native bush along the sought-after Nikau coastal ridge. This property offers an extraordinary sense of peace and privacy, where luxury, sustainability, and nature exist in harmony. From the moment you arrive, the outside world fades away.
The 218m² residence has been thoughtfully crafted from enduring natural materials and is defined by its open-plan kitchen-living layout. Once inside, your gaze is naturally drawn to the infinity-style picture window, framing one of the likely best views in New Zealand. The spacious living area seamlessly flows onto an expansive wrap-around deck—the ultimate vantage point to enjoy the coastal panorama and sublime sunsets.
The kitchen features beautiful granite benchtops and island seating, inviting long meals with family and friends. A stylish Rayburn range cooker acts as a striking centrepiece while providing radiant heating throughout the home. In the lounge area, the Yunca wood burner is tucked against a natural stone surround, creating warmth and ambience, as well as efficient hot water heating via the wetback.
Accommodation includes three generous bedrooms. The private upstairs master suite features more awe-inspiring views and a separate full bathroom overlooking the bush backdrop. The guest bedrooms are situated downstairs, also with a second bathroom and equally beautiful outlooks, complete with a private deck.
Outdoors, the established native gardens blend into the surrounding natural landscape, attracting abundant birdlife. The cast-iron Spiroloc fire-bath is perfectly placed to relax under the stars—most nights you can hear morepork calling.
Organic vegetable gardens and fruit trees complement the property's self-sufficient design, which includes off-grid solar power, backup generator, gas facilities, three hot water sources (solar, gas, and wetback), a 30,000-litre water tank, and a Living Earthworm System (LEW) septic setup. The carpeted double garage with integrated laundry, generous storage throughout the home, and ample parking complete the practical features.
Location is key, with the beach and coastal village of Mokihinui just a 5-minute drive away. Westport township is an easy 35-minute commute. For outdoor enthusiasts, world-class tracks are nearby—Old Ghost Road, Heaphy Track, Kawatiri Coastal Trail and the Paparoa Track.
The property currently operates as the highly regarded ‘Wild Weka Eco Stay’ boutique accommodation. You can choose to continue operating the Airbnb, or simply enjoy it as an exceptional private residence. Whether you’re looking to unplug from the daily grind or seeking a self-sufficient lifestyle, this is a place to reconnect and experience a way of life increasingly difficult to find in one of New Zealand's most spectacular coastal settings. Property is being sold subject to issue of title.
