Large-scale dairy properties of this calibre are seldom offered to the North Island market. Colliers Rural is proud to exclusively present Wharetoto Dairy, an impressive 731-hectare (more or less) dairy operation, with approximately 605 hectares effective, located just 30 minutes east of Taupō.
Predominantly flat to easy in contour and sitting approximately 745 metres above sea level, Wharetoto Dairy, combines exceptional scale, favourable summer growing conditions, substantial infrastructure, and significant recent capital investment.
At the centre of the operation is a modern 80-bale rotary dairy featuring automatic cup removers (ACRs), Protrack technology, in-shed feeding, and automated drafting systems.
The owners have set a production target of approximately 600,000kgMS for the 2026/27 season and believe annual production exceeding this level is achievable with increased cow numbers and some additional off-farm winter grazing.
Wharetoto Dairy comprises approximately 63 well-subdivided paddocks, generally around 10 hectares each, serviced by wide, well-maintained pumice-based farm races that provide excellent stock access.
Approximately 333 hectares of pasture have been under-sown or renovated over the past two years, reflecting the owners' commitment to improving pasture quality and productivity.
Approximately 80 hectares of winter kale grown. The majority of cows are wintered on the property, with 100 grazed off during June and July in the most recent winter.
Purchased supplementary feed anticipated for 2026/27 is approximately 1.2 tonnes per cow, predominantly palm kernel blends, with straight palm kernel generally fed through the dairy following mating.
An effluent system with irrigation capability across approximately 250 hectares further supports the operation.
Water security is a significant feature of Wharetoto Dairy with the Taharua Stream providing the primary supply for livestock, the dairy and all six dwellings. Dedicated filtration systems service domestic and dairy requirements.
A secondary on-farm spring supplies storage tanks, allowing gravity-fed distribution. An extensive reticulation network. A Dosatron mineral delivery system provides stock minerals over the winter months.
Six modernised dwellings provide excellent accommodation for owners, management, and farm staff, supporting the requirements of a substantial dairy enterprise.
Calf-rearing infrastructure allows shelter for 1,200 calves.
Wharetoto Dairy offers more than a substantial landholding. It represents an opportunity to secure a large, predominantly easy-contour dairy platform with modern facilities, an established farming system and considerable recent investment already completed.
Just 30 minutes from Taupō, with its excellent services, schools, Lake Taupō and recreational opportunities, Wharetoto Dairy also offers an appealing lifestyle for owners and staff.
For those looking to establish or expand a significant dairy investment, Wharetoto Dairy deserves serious consideration.
