Located in the sought-after Hakataramea Valley, Belfield Farm presents an impressive opportunity to secure a substantial, very well-maintained and efficient farming operation comprising approximately 770.86 hectares.
Running a proven sheep, beef and cropping operation, the property offers approximately 756 hectares of effective land, with a diverse mix of productive flat to rolling country and some steeper hill country. This includes approximately 60 hectares of river flats adjoining the Hakataramea River and a further 70 hectares of paddocks alongside Padkins Stream, with approximately 600 hectares identified as Land Use Capability Class 3.
One of Belfield Farm's standout features is the exceptional standard in which it has been maintained and farmed over the years. The property is exceptionally tidy, reflecting a high level of care, attention to detail and sound farming management. This is something consistently recognised by those familiar with the farm and is evident throughout the property.
The sheep operation has historically carried up to approximately 2,800 breeding ewes, 600 hoggets and 60 rams and killers, providing an indication of the scale and established nature of the farming system. Cattle trading also forms part of the operation, with the property having run up to approximately 200 head of cattle.
Cropping provides further versatility, with approximately 100 hectares historically utilised for cereal crops including barley and ryecorn. The property has also grown up to approximately 120 hectares of lucerne, alongside greenfeed, fodder crops and pasture rotations. This combination provides flexibility across the farming calendar and a range of feed production options.
Water is supplied through two separate schemes, with the Hakataramea Water Scheme providing the property's tank water allocation, totalling 16 units, while Padkins supplies the race water throughout the property. Natural springs and waterways provide additional water sources in other areas. The farm is currently operated as a dryland unit, with no existing irrigation infrastructure.
The farm improvements are a real feature, providing an extensive range of facilities to support the scale of the operation. These include multiple implement and hay sheds, grain storage, five 45-tonne silos, workshops and additional woolshed facilities.
A particular highlight is the substantial sheep-handling complex, featuring an approximately 298m2 internal shearing shed and approximately 782m² of covered yards. The five-stand shearing facility is complemented by a kitchen, separate toilet and shower facilities, creating a practical and well-appointed working environment. The covered yards provide excellent space for handling and managing stock, with a Racewell Auto Draft sheep handling and weighing system adding further efficiency to the operation.
Accommodation is provided by two residences, including a substantial five-bedroom homestead of approximately 295m², featuring two bathrooms, an office and established grounds with a tennis court. A separate three-bedroom cottage provides additional accommodation for staff or extended family.
Belfield Farm is also supported by a current NZFAP+ Farm Plan audited to Gold Star level and is a Silver Fern supplier farm.
Combining scale, established infrastructure, a proven farming system and versatile land use options, Belfield Farm represents an outstanding opportunity for farming families, established operators or those looking to secure a significant South Canterbury rural holding.
