Ray White agent Matt Gibson told OneRoof that over 130 groups from all over Auckland had viewed the impressive three-bedroom mid-century home on Ripon Crescent. “We haven’t had those numbers through for a long time, not since market peak in 2021 or 2022,” he said.
Six buyers registered to bid at Wednesday’s auction, and another 10 or 15 conditional buyers were waiting in the wings to make an offer if the property passed in.

The bidding opened at $1.6m and jumped to $2m in less than 60 seconds. Two minutes later, the auctioneer declared the property on the market at $2.255m and sold it for the same amount.
“The buyers had just sold in Remuera, and they just loved the design for a family of older teens,” Gibson said, noting that they already had plans to expand the rear house.
Gibson said there were a lot of disappointed conditional buyers who couldn’t get a look in at the auction. “I think a lot of people are realising that they need to sell so they can act on these properties,” he said.

He said some nice properties were starting to hit the market, but none had the style and finish of his clients’ house. “We had one lady who saw it in the New Zealand Herald.” She had been wanting to buy in Parnell, but the listing photos and the look of the house had impressed her enough to consider Meadowbank.
OneRoof profiled the house at the end of last month and talked to one of the vendors about the stylish, no-expense-spared renovation.
The vendors bought the classic Meadowbank brick and tile property in 2020 for $1.73m and set about transforming it.

“I’m a mid-century fan through and through, and as soon as I saw the front of the house, there was no other option for me,” vendor Paige told OneRoof.
She commissioned Rarebirds Interiors to help execute her vision, which included Palm Springs-inspired modernist touches, pops of colour, bold geometric shapes, and tactile materials.
“I met someone who specialises in colour psychology in interior design. The bathroom is pink because it starts your day right, and you feel good. The same goes for the yellow up the stairs. It plays into that emotion and personality – you’re not just in a white box. Boring!”
She added: “When we bought it, the house wasn’t insulated, so I fully reframed, insulated, jibbed and painted, redid all the lighting and electrics, and put the double glazing in.”
The floor plan was also reworked to maximise space, create better connection and form a social hub upstairs in the open-plan living, dining and high-spec walnut kitchen zone.
Paige said absolutely everything had been designed to stand the test of time. “It’s built like a brick shithouse and very secure. You can open the doors right up and swim in the pool, and it’s completely private.”
