In 1991 Ling started an import - export trading business in China, meeting many clients from all over the world. Ling and her family immigrated to New Zealand in 1996.

Ling set up and owned a fast food business at Westfield Shopping Centre which ran from 1999 - 2010, providing her with valuable experience in customer service.
