About Chris Dunell
I grew up in Christchurch and spent over 35 years there before making the move to Nelson with my family a few years ago. These days, you’ll find us based in Marsden Valley, with my partner Joline and our two kids, Theodore and Alba, who both attend Hampden Street School.
Before real estate, I spent 16 years in the New Zealand Police. During that time, I worked across a range of roles—from frontline and community policing through to investigations and the drug squad. It gave me a real front-row seat to life in all its forms, and more importantly, taught me how to work with all kinds of people.
That experience is something I lean on heavily in real estate. I’m big on communication, understanding what’s really going on for people, and helping guide conversations to get the best outcome. Whether it’s negotiating, problem-solving, or just knowing when to listen, those skills make a real difference.
Outside of work, I’ve always been heavily involved in running. I’ve competed as an ultramarathon runner and had the privilege of representing New Zealand at the World Trail Running Championships. That side of my life has shaped me a lot—discipline, consistency, and pushing through when things get tough are all things I bring into my work as well.
Since moving into real estate, I’ve been fortunate to work with some great people and achieve some really positive results early on. What I’ve enjoyed most, though, is the people side of it—every situation is different, and every client has their own story.
I’m often told I’m not your typical real estate agent. I’m pretty down-to-earth, easy to deal with, and focused on doing the right thing by the people I work with. At the end of the day, my goal is simple: to help you get the best possible result, while making the process as straightforward and stress-free as I can.
If that sounds like what you’re after, I’d love to have a chat.
